Why are programs like this important?
According to the National Institute of Health, the lifespan of an individual living with an intellectual/developmental disability is 20 – 30 percent shorter than those without one. This is due to a number of factors including limited access to affordable housing, quality care, and fewer financial resources. Without a loving and supported environment, individuals can often feel isolated and hopeless.
As an integrated housing, health and human services nonprofit, VOA Chesapeake & Carolinas believes that everyone deserves to live a long and fulfilling life to the best of their ability. Since 1998, amazing supporters like you have given hope to more than 90 individuals annually benefitting from our programs in the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Hampton Roads.
How you can help.
Each year, our vulnerable residents need people like you to maintain homes like the one above so that they can continue to live comfortably and thrive. This year, nine of their homes are in need of a total of $89,000 to repair and replace furniture, appliances, roofs, decks and other important home improvements.
Will you answer the call today by making a generous gift? Any contribution you are able to make will help our residents live longer and happier lives.
