In honor of Women's History Month, we are excited to announce the launch of our brand-new Hope Has A Home™ for Women program, the first women-only medical respite program of its kind in the District of Columbia to offer women too sick to be on the streets a safe place to rest, get the mental and physical care they need, and ultimately move into stable housing. To celebrate, we brought together over 50 of our program partners, funders and supporters like you for a special ribbon cutting ceremony on March 27th.
It truly takes a village to create lasting change and health equity for all. Hope Hope Has A Home™ for Women would not have been possible without support from the following organizations and individuals: AmeriHealth Caritas DC, Unity Health Care, Pathways to Housing DC, Developing Families Maternal Health Fund, Bob's Discount Furniture, The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, Pinnacle Solutions, The Fisher-Pollard Family, and Jenna Kirkpatrick Howard.
We also want to thank District of Columbia Department of Human Services Director, Laura Green Zeilinger, and other community leaders for attending and providing remarks at the ribbon cutting. Their presence helps promote awareness around Hope Has A Home™ for Women and the needs of vulnerable women in the District.
Operated by women for women, Hope Has A Home™ offers a wide variety of medical services, including gynecology and other specialized services. At least 30 women annually will receive help overcoming behavioral health challenges from trusted and trained peer recovery specialists who have lived experience with substance use disorders and achieving sobriety. And once the women are ready to transition into a stable living environment, program staff will help them get placed into housing.
