CaringMatters' new Bereaved Caregivers Workshop is a special, no cost, virtual weekend workshop for former full-time caregivers whose loved one died within the past 18 months.
Participant requirements/information:
- At least 21 years old
- Resident of Montgomery County, MD
- Able to use Zoom
- No charge to participants
- Workshop schedule:
Friday, April 30: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Saturday, May 1: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Sunday, May 2: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Participants will:
- Connect with other former caregivers to share experiences and grief
- Practice self-care and relaxation
- Commemorate their loved one with gratitude
- Refocus their life now that the caregiving role has ended

Drive-In Kick-off / Interactive Virtual Activities

This dynamic program is a free, weekend-long camp experience for children and teens, ages 6-17, grieving the death of someone close to them that combines interactive activities with grief education and emotional support.
- Hybrid format:
- Friday night: In-person drive-in kickoff at Bar-T, Laytonsville, MD
- Saturday & Sunday: interactive, virtual events on Zoom
- Led by grief professionals and trained volunteers
- Program and "Camp in a Box" materials provided free of charge
- Space is limited

Eva Cowen, CaringMatters' Community Resource Specialist with The Whole You Program, was the guest on a recent episode of Engage@Home, the YouTube Channel of the Montgomery County Caregiver Support Program. Lylie Fisher, the host, talked with Eva about this new program - a partnership between CaringMatters and The Shady Grove Adventist Aquilino Cancer Center, funded by a grant from the Healthcare Initiative Foundation. The program utilizes CaringMatters' trained volunteers to work with adults being treated for cancer or other blood disorders and their families, providing assistance, free of charge, accessing social support services and other community resources.

Anna Maria Izquierdo-Porrera, MD, PhD, is the co-founder and Executive Director of Care for Your Health. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, focusing on serving multicultural communities, with special emphasis on delivering high quality, patient-centered care to vulnerable, underinsured and elderly patients. Graduate Counseling Intern
Dr. Aditi Menon-Broker is a counselor-in-training, dedicated to working across the human lifespan, building stronger families, closer relationships and happier individuals. She brings a unique multi-cultural perspective to her counseling practice, driven by a lifetime of living and working internationally in 15 countries, as well as across the United States.
