2023 NC Burnout Survey

Bill Claytor, DDS, MAGD

Executive Director, NCCDP

Burnout is a severe problem affecting medical personnel and healthcare organizations. New technologies, regulations, electronic health records, and increased market pressures are driving rapid change in the healthcare workplace. These changes to organizations and care delivery models impact how care is delivered and how it is experienced by patients. If the resulting work environment is not a good fit with physicians and other medical personnel, this can lead to staff burnout.

Choices

A Grateful Recovering Dental Hygienist

It is always an honor and privilege to share how recovery has impacted my life. I could write a book (and have often considered this) on how my life was, where I am now, and where I hope my choices will take me in the future.

The Gifts of Recovery

By A Grateful Recovering Dentist

As I watch this blinking cursor, I am aware that today marks a special “occasion” in my life. I officially outlived my Dad. My survival was not without its challenges. I am an addict in recovery. Where Do I Begin?

By A Grateful Recovering Alcoholic

Where do I begin? And then I hit rock bottom. My dental license was suspended.

Getting Into Recovery

Right from the start there were keg parties, mixers, and the aroma of marijuana coming from my freshman hall. I fell right in with the party people and it wasn’t long before I experimented with other drugs.

I Now Know I Belong

A Grateful Recovering Alcoholic

Throughout my time in recovery, the greatest gift that I have received has been contentment and a sense of belonging that I never thought I'd achieve. Throughout my life I had always struggled to find inner peace. I frequently felt that I didn't fit in and making friends was always difficult. I was involved in many activities and did well in school, but still felt like something was missing.

A Pair of New Glasses

A Grateful Recovering Dental Hygienist

When asked what the main thing being in recovery has given me in life? I paused, prayed, and meditated on what that meant for me. All these things I assure you all I have never done prior to recovery!! The first thing that crossed my mind is having a personal relationship with GOD, My Creator, which is something I never had before I got sober.

The Main Thing

By A Grateful Recovering Dentist

What is the main thing recovery has given me in life?

Sometimes it’s hard to remember what my life was like before recovery. I think it’s a good exercise to think back to those times, remember how awful things were, how unmanageable every day seemed.

It’s so easy to find gratitude for the wonderful things in my life today with my past as a mirror of contrast.
