Dear Marcia,
Spring fever is in full swing! So many of us are probably already thinking about summer vacations, relaxing at the lake, or spending time with family and friends.
Unfortunately, hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation. For families struggling with food insecurity, summer means the need for more food to fill their cupboards. During the schoolyear, thousands of kids get free or reduced-price school meals to meet their nutritional needs.
When school is out, students lose access to those consistent meals.
That’s why we, and our network of 200 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, step up to meet the increased demand. We also are excited to relaunch our youth summer meals program, making sure kids have access to a free lunch five days a week. Check out greatplainsfoodbank.org for a full list of youth summer meals dates, sites, times, and ways you can get involved.
Thank YOU for helping families and for making hunger relief a year-round commitment. Enjoy your summer!
