Sarah Johansen of IOCP speaks at a CfK event

How early support can impact future success

A Note from Caring for Kids (CfK) Manager, Sarah Johansen

As a parent of three teenagers, I know that parenting is the most rewarding - and the hardest - job that we will ever have! Although every parent is an expert on their child, it’s impossible to have all the answers about development, behaviors and emotions, and how to navigate difficult situations. We all need trusted supports that we can turn to. It’s good for the kids, and it’s good for the parents too!

Last September, Caring for Kids (CfK) welcomed Ashlyn, a social worker from Washburn Center for Children, to our team. Ashlyn is available to answer questions about child development, to share tips to strengthen your parent/child relationship, and to provide support if your child or family are experiencing challenges.

Although your children are little, they still can have big feelings and behaviors. Providing support early can be a game changer for their development and their future success. Caring for Kids is here to help!

Meet Ashlyn, Social Worker from Washburn Center for Children

Hi! My name is Ashlyn, and I am the newest member of the CfK team. If we have not met yet, I am a Clinician from Washburn Center for Children partnering with the Caring for Kids and Neighborhood Programs to support kiddos and families.

My support is based on individual need and may look different for everyone. For example, I can meet with kiddos or families on a regular basis to provide therapy or offer support in other ways like answering questions you may have about development and behaviors or helping to find mental health resources.

As we enter the last weeks of summer, there are upcoming changes as some kiddos transition to kindergarten or new classrooms.

  • Do you have questions or feelings regarding the back-to-school changes or your child's development?
  • Is your kiddo expressing concern, and would it be helpful to learn new ways to respond?
  • Want to learn ways to help to ease their nerves?
  • Has the summer routine brought new behavior or relationship changes?

Let’s get in contact and discuss ways you think I could be helpful to your family!

Life can be overwhelming, especially when you are taking care of yourself and young children. If there is anything I can do to support you, please reach out to email me or your IOCP case manager Lauren.

We want your feedback... Please take this CfK Poll
