RSDM Program Helps Holocaust Survivors
Like many Holocaust survivors, Larisa and Anatoly Rabinovich suffered from a lack of food and medical care as children. The impact on their health lasted a lifetime, including problems with their teeth and gums. Thanks to a partnership between RSDM and the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, the couple and other survivors are finally receiving the care they need. LEARN MORE

Faculty Member Gets $200 K For Biomaterials Research

An RSDM researcher specializing in clinical biomaterials has received two grants totaling $200,000 for his work, including funding to develop a new form of endodontic sealer and money for high-tech lab equipment. Dr. Mohammad Ali Saghiri, director of RSDM’s Biomaterials Lab, was awarded $100,000 from Rutgers TechAdvance and $100,000 from Rutgers Strategic Alliances and University Core Facilities for his work. RSDM Tooth Fairy Does Video Q&A With Kids

When Dr. Britteny Zito realized her annual appearance as the Tooth Fairy on Give Kids a Smile Day was cancelled due to the pandemic, she came up with another plan. Dr. Zito, a resident in the Department of Orthodontics, directed a video shoot featuring herself and fellow RSDM students answering questions from children. She’s joined in the video by fairy-in-training Flora Inoa, who also helped make a bilingual version. LEARN MORE

Balbo Goes Hybrid During Pandemic

Balbo Day went hybrid this year, with on-site presentations, a remote audience, and judges who gave feedback both in person and via Zoom. Although the pandemic switched things up from past years, organizers found a way to pull it off. That was impossible last year, when RSDM was closed at the height of the COVID-19 crisis in the spring. LEARN MORE

As part of the Care to Share Alumni and Student Mentoring program, the RSDM Alumni Association will host a webinar on Thursday, April 15th at 7 p.m. on malpractice insurance and legal issues in the dental field. The speakers will be William Barrett, CEO at Mandelbaum Salsburg and Dave Monahan, Owner of Mednet Financial Inc. The Care to Share Alumni and Student Mentoring program is an exciting opportunity for alumni and students to connect. We welcome all alumni who want to help guide the next generation of dentists by sharing their skills, knowledge and experience. Help Students Facing Hardship During Pandemic

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many RSDM students are struggling. They face transportation problems, housing issues, lost income, food insecurity, health insurance complications and more. To help relieve these strains, dental students have been applying directly to Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) student emergency funds, which provides immediate support for those facing serious problems.
