We are writing to you, a valued partner of Caritas Communities, to share important news about our leadership team. After 22 years as Executive Director, Mark Winkeller has decided to take a step back from overall management of the organization in order to focus on his passion and unique expertise as our Director of Acquisitions. We are pleased to announce that Karin Cassel Mitterando, who has served as the Chief Development Officer and Director of Communications at Caritas since 2013, will step into the position as Executive Director, effective April 1, 2019.
For 34 years, Caritas Communities has worked to preven
t homelessness in Greater Boston by providing very low-income individuals with permanent housing, support, and expanded opportunities-and we will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. We are tremendously grateful to Mark, our very engaged Board of Directors, our dedicated staff, and our generous donors who have enabled Caritas to grow and thrive.

Under the leadership of Mark Winkeller, Caritas has become recognized as one of the preeminent non-profit Single Room Occupancy developers and operators in Massachusetts. He has established strong working relationships with the key government agencies and financing partners. His tenacity and creativity have enabled Caritas to thrive in a challenging environment. Additionally, Mark has built a dedicated team that is prepared to ensure the continued success of Caritas. Mark has accomplished all of this while embracing and furthering the vision of our founder P. Leo Corcoran. We are extremely thankful for Mark's indelible mark on our community and our organization, and that he will continue to contribute his expertise to our acquisition and development program.

Caritas is fortunate that a key member of Mark's leadership team, Karin Cassel Mitterando, has agreed to accept the Executive Director role. Karin has 25 years of professional success in the nonprofit sector, the last 15 years in senior leadership positions. In her five years at Caritas, she has tripled the philanthropic program income, led the organization through its first re-branding, launched and managed multiple committees, developed strong relationships with the Board, the staff, partnering organizations and donors. Karin has also launched several programs designed to help residents preserve tenancy and live with dignity such as Supportive Services, Emergency Rental Assistance, Healthy Residents, and Welcome Home Baskets.
The Board and staff respect and admire Karin's leadership and fully support her in this new role, and I look forward to sharing more of Karin's background, experience and plans for the future over the coming months. The continued support of Mark through this transition period as well as Karin's skill set and knowledge of Caritas will facilitate a smooth leadership transition.
We are excited about the next chapter for Caritas and are eternally grateful to all of you for your continued support. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Bill Churchill at

Sincerely,
The Board of Directors
