Old Town Carjacking and Increased Patrols
Pothole Season
Office Closure for Holiday
Dear Neighbors,

On Monday, February 25th at 5:07 a.m., an armed carjacking of a livery vehicle by three males occurred in the 400 block of West Wisconsin Street. The vehicle was recovered on the South Side and the offender is in critical condition after crashing the vehicle. A gun was recovered.

After requests from my office, the 18th District has dramatically increased the number of tactical officers in the Old Town area. I do not believe that the 18th District has paid enough attention to the Old Town Triangle area, focusing instead on the entertainment district and residential area south of North Avenue. We can now expect an enhanced level of enforcement in the area.

I have asked Commander O'Shea to conduct a detailed study of crime patterns in the Old Town Triangle and report on them at our next CAPS meeting, which is March 14th, at the Old Town Triangle Association.

Area Central detectives and the 18th District are retrieving video footage and canvassing the area for information related to the carjacking incident. Police believe that the offenders were targeting livery vehicles.

Pothole Blitz

Extreme weather has led to huge crater-like potholes damaging our city streets. The Chicago Department of Transportation is working hard to patch potholes. Our Ward staff conducts routine site-visits, but asks if you see a pothole, please call the ward office, or email [email protected] . Please try to submit a photograph and the address.

If your vehicle is damaged due to a pothole, you can submit a vehicle damage claim to the city. Click here for more information.

Factors leading to pothole failure by fatigue in areas subject to freezing and thawing are : 1. Precipitation adds moisture to supporting soil structure. 2.  Frost heaving can damage pavement. 3. Thawing can weaken soil structure. 4 . Traffic can break the pavement.
