Thank you for an amazing 24-25 school year! Enjoy your summer and we'll see you in August!

Hello and happy summer!!

It is so hard to believe the school year has officially ended. Where has the time gone?! I want to say how proud I am of all of our students. Each and every one of them have grown this year and I feel so lucky to be able to witness it first hand!

To wrap up the school year as a family, you can help them fill out an "End of the School Year Interview" to reflect with them on this past year. This is a great moment to grow your bond with your child and to share how proud you are of them, all while helping them grow in their reflective skills. I have attached an "End of the School Year Interview" paper below, if you'd like to use it! I'd love to see completed ones- Feel free to email them to me!

As summer begins, I want to encourage you all to promote your student(s) to get outside and exercise! Being outside and exercising have so many benefits for their growing brains and bodies. With the weather warming up, it's the perfect time to start! By promoting exercise and being outdoors with your child at a young age, you are helping them create habits they will use their whole life! A great connection opportunity is joining them outside as well. Below are different benefits of exercise for kids. Take a look, you might be surprised by some of the benefits exercise can bring your child!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe summer! It is such a joy to work with wonderful students and alongside such wonderful families. I appreciate all of your hard work, support, and partnership in creating our amazing school community. Thank you for everything this year. I will miss our students over the summer, and will be eager to see them all in the 2025-2026 school year, as Mrs. Nakasian (we'll see how it goes lol)!

Thank you for everything this year,

Miss Wood

Last Wednesday we clapped out our 5th grade class..

Congratulations Class of 2032! Best wishes from your Carlisle teachers and staff as you embark on new adventures at Dempsey!

5th Grade Orchestra Information

This fall 5th grade students have the opportunity to join the Delaware City Schools orchestra program! 5th grade orchestra classes are held at Dempsey Middle School before the start of the elementary school day.

Registration for 5th grade orchestra is handled at the beginning of the school year. An informational meeting will be held on the evening of August 27, 2025 in the Dempsey Orchestra Room for all interested 5th grade families to learn more about the program.

5th Grade Orchestra classes will be held two days a week before the start of the regular school day. Conger, Smith, and Woodward students will attend 5th Grade Orchestra at Dempsey on most Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Carlisle and Schultz will attend 5th Grade Orchestra at Dempsey on most Thursday and Friday mornings. Adjustments will be made to accommodate holidays and other school schedule interruptions. In those weeks students will occasionally have a Monday morning class.

Students can utilize the Dempsey school bus route service to travel to the middle school for 5th Grade Orchestra. Busses will transport students back to their elementary schools before the elementary school day commences. Families who wish to transport their students to Dempsey on orchestra class mornings may do so. We understand the importance of accessibility and convenience for our DCS families. By offering transportation options and scheduling classes before the school day, we aim to make participation in the 5th Grade Orchestra program as seamless as possible.

5th grade is the year your child will have the opportunity to become a member of the Delaware City Schools Orchestra program. There are so many wonderful reasons to be a part of the orchestra! As a member of the orchestra, your student will learn to play violin, viola, cello, or double bass. String players get to play exciting music, from classical to fiddle tunes to rock! Students also learn to be part of a team and work well with others. No one sits on the bench in the orchestra! Students learn to practice and focus through learning a musical instrument. Many students make friendships in beginning orchestra that will last all the way through high school orchestra and beyond. Don't miss out!

Please note, band and choir classes continue to be offered starting in the 6th grade year at Delaware City Schools. Delaware City Schools students are able to take two music ensembles beginning in 6th grade. We encourage all interested rising 5th grade families to consider this exciting class for their student.

Please email orchestra teacher, Mrs. Wimbiscus Black, wimbisab@delawarecityschools.net with any questions.

Congratulations to our May Students of the Month!
