From the desk of Mrs. Stewart

We had a wonderful first full week of school, and it has been so exciting to officially welcome our kindergartners into the Carlisle family! Their smiles and energy have already made our hallways brighter.

At Carlisle, the safety of every student is our top priority. To ensure dismissal runs smoothly and safely for all, please review and follow our dismissal expectations:

Carlisle Dismissal Safety

  • Children should always load on the passenger side of the vehicle.
  • The left lane is for loaded vehicles only—please keep the line moving.
  • If your child needs help with buckling, please park and walk to the parent waiting area.
  • Do not wave children to cars—staff will dismiss students safely.
  • Always cross at the crosswalks to ensure visibility and safety.
  • If parked, an adult must walk up to receive the child—students will not be permitted to walk into the parking lot alone.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to helping us create a safe, smooth dismissal process for all Carlisle students!

New Carlisle Building Security Procedures

Delaware City Schools has implemented an enhanced visitor management system at all schools and the district office.

The system will allow us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers during the school day and better track the guests in our buildings. Visitor management systems are considered a best practice, and schools across the state and nation have used them successfully to screen and track school visitors.

Visitors to our schools, including volunteers, will need to present a government issued ID card (most common is driver’s license) which will be scanned into the system.

The system checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders and various criminal databases. Once entry is approved, the visitor will be issued a temporary badge that should be worn during the visit.

The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and your support in enhancing the school safety protocols in our district.

Elementary School Hours:

8:30 am - 3:15 pm

Breakfast is served from 8:00 am - 8:20 am. Doors open for students eating breakfast at 8:00 am. All other students may enter the building at 8:20 am when the first bell rings.

Tardy bell rings / entrance doors are closed at 8:30 am. Students arriving after 8:30 must be signed in through the office and obtain a pass.

Online Back to School Forms are now open and can be completed in your PowerSchool Parent Portal using the same login information that you use to review grades and attendance.

Log in to your parent portal and select the

FORMS icon on the left to get started.

Please complete/update forms prior to the start of school to ensure we have the most up to date information. Cell Phone Policy Reminder

The State of Ohio recently passed legislation that prohibits the use of cell phones during the school day in an effort to minimize distractions and support a focused learning environment for all students. Student use of cellular phones and other electronic communication devices will not be permitted during the school day from 8:30-3:15.

Personal communication devices, including cell phones, earbuds, headphones and watches, must be powered off and stored out of sight during the entire school day. Exceptions may be made to accommodate IEP/504 plans and for documented medical reasons.

As always, if you have an urgent need to get a message to your student, please call our school office and our staff will ensure the message is delivered.

Lost & Found

Our Lost & Found is growing! If your child is missing an item, please have them check the Lost & Found table across from the cafeteria!

Join Delaware City Schools 5th Grade Orchestra!

This fall 5th grade students have the opportunity to join the Delaware City Schools orchestra program! 5th grade orchestra classes are held at Dempsey Middle School before the start of the elementary school day. Students attend 5th grade orchestra 2 days a week starting at 7:40 AM.

  • Carlisle and Schultz students will attend 5th Grade Orchestra at Dempsey on most Thursday and Friday mornings. Their first class is Thurs. September 11th.
  • Adjustments will be made to accommodate holidays and other school schedule interruptions. In those weeks students will occasionally have a Monday morning class. Schedules for the year of classes will be distributed at the August 27th Family Meeting.

An informational meeting will be held on the evening of August 27th, 2025 in the Dempsey Orchestra Room for all interested 5th grade families to learn more about the program.

  • Families from Carlisle and Schultz Elementary Schools will meet from 7:30-8 PM. Carlisle and Schultz students can listen to the orchestra, try instruments, and be measured for their instrument starting at 7 PM.

Students can utilize the Dempsey school bus route service to travel to the middle school for 5th Grade Orchestra. Busses will transport students back to their elementary schools before the elementary school day commences. Families who wish to transport their students to Dempsey on orchestra class mornings may do so. We understand the importance of accessibility and convenience for our DCS families. By offering transportation options and scheduling classes before the school day, we aim to make participation in the 5th Grade Orchestra program as seamless as possible. Students who are in compaction math remain at Dempsey after orchestra and head to their compaction class.

5th grade is the year your child will have the opportunity to become a member of the Delaware City Schools Orchestra program. There are so many wonderful reasons to be a part of the orchestra! As a member of the orchestra, your student will learn to play violin, viola, cello, or double bass. String players get to play exciting music, from classical to fiddle tunes to rock! Students also learn to be part of a team and work well with others. No one sits on the bench in the orchestra! Students learn to practice and focus through learning a musical instrument. Many students make friendships in beginning orchestra that will last all the way through high school orchestra and beyond. Don't miss out!

Families may enroll their student in 5th grade orchestra through our DCS Orchestra Google Form (due by 11:59 PM on Thursday, August 28th).

Please note, band and choir classes continue to be offered starting in the 6th grade year at Delaware City Schools. Delaware City Schools students are able to take two music ensembles beginning in 6th grade. We encourage all interested rising 5th grade families to consider this exciting class for their student.

Please email orchestra teacher Mrs. Wimbiscus Black, wimbisab@delawarecityschools.net, with any questions.
