To the Lehman College Community –

Our ongoing efforts to find the safest and least disruptive path forward to renovate the HVAC in Carman Hall have resulted in a new plan and timeline for room closures as well as class and office relocations. 

Construction will still begin in early January, but it will now be conducted in phases, by floor. 

• Work will begin on the Third Floor and continue for about six months. All offices and classrooms will be taken offline shortly after the end of the Fall 2026 semester. Instructions for relocation and how to handle personal items will follow shortly. 
• We anticipate the Third Floor will reopen for everyone in time for the Fall 2027 semester. 

• Work will begin on the Second Floor after the Third Floor is complete and will also last for about six months. These offices and classrooms will be taken offline shortly after the end of the Spring 2027 semester.  
• We are hopeful the Second Floor will reopen in time for the Spring 2028 semester. 

• The contractor tells us they only need to work in the stairwells on these floors. They will also do this in phases, working on half the stairwells at a time. This means the Multimedia Center, associated classrooms, and BronxNet will be able to remain open during construction. 

Additional Construction Info

• We have an agreement that major, noisy construction will take place during early morning hours, in the evening, or on weekends.  
• A temporary ceiling will soon be installed on the Second Floor, remaining until work there begins next summer. 

Academic Info

• The impact of this new plan will be reflected in course locations and modalities when Spring 2027 registration opens in early November.
