Carmel Valley Association would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to
the many CVA members and friends of Carmel Valley who joined our annual
meeting this past weekend for a really special afternoon.
It doesn't get better than socializing with community amidst the magical atmosphere of Hidden Valley Music Seminars in the acoustic excellence of theirauditorium, listening to the dulcet tones of Hidden Valley's Steinway grand piano with Bobby Phillips masterfully tickling the ivories, sharing favorite tunesboth old and new.
All was accompanied by a scrumptious spread of delectables from Jerome's Carmel Valley Market, while raising a glass together on this special day, and enjoying the luscious notes of Hubert Fabre's exquisite wines. A big thank you to all our Valley business friends. Aren't we all so lucky to have such variety and bounty in our Village!!
Thanks too, to all our speakers who were so generous with their time and assessment of the many issues and opportunities open to our community in a wonderfully engaging, interactive and informative panel forum. Supervisors Mary Adams and Glenn Church, and Sheriff Tina Nieto, thank you for spending your afternoon with us, and addressing the many questions our audience had for you.
And most of all, thanks to everyone for attending and bringing our community together for such a warm and friendly occasion.

CVA's Newly Created Natural Heritage Committee
Will Soon Need Your Help!
As you may have heard, the Carmel Valley Association has recently created a new Natural Heritage Committee.
The committee's mission is to help celebrate, protect, restore and sustain Carmel Valley’s natural ecosystems; the social, cultural, spiritual, and economic benefits they provide; and the vital linkages between people and nature -- past, present, and future.
While this mission can seem challenging, it is increasingly vital in our times if we want to save what we treasure most about the Carmel Valley.
And, we need help to meet that challenge. Once the new Committee has met, we will update this page with information about how to become a member or to contribute as a volunteer or intern. Look for updates in early to mid-April, 2023.

The next meeting of Sons of Norway, Aasgaarden Lodge, will feature a showing of the Academy Award winning documentary “Kon Tiki”. Filmed in Norway in 1947, this Norwegian film shows the expedition led by Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl.
It has an introduction explaining Heyerdahl’s theory on the original expedition with diagrams and images of the building of the raft and its launch from Peru. However, more recent studies show another theory based on DNA evidence. A discussion period ,will follow the film, as well as refreshments and a short meeting.
We hope to see you there at our first meeting together after Covid and at a new site. Masks optional.

From the Big Sur Land Trust:
Race for Open Space Registration is now open!
This April, Big Sur Land Trust is hitting the trails once again for our annual fundraiser to save open space and care for the lands you love in Monterey County! Whether you want to go fast, slow, solo, or with others, this year's Race for Open Space has something for you.
Throughout April, you can run/walk/hike through Big Sur Land Trust’s nature preserves in Big Sur, Carmel Valley, Greenfield, and Salinas. And, thanks to our partners at Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District, California State Parks, Santa Lucia Preserve, and Santa Lucia Conservancy, on Saturday, April 1 you have several options to experience conserved lands that are not usually open to the public. You can choose the 8.5-mile, 9.5-mile, or 21-mile Adventure Courses — or from our new 2-mile fun run! During the rest of the month, we will also lead guided hikes at additional open spaces that are rarely open to the public. Live out of the area? You can participate virtually on your favorite local trails.
These treasured open spaces represent the vitality of Monterey County. Please join us and support healthy lands, healthy people, and healthy communities! You’ll be supporting our mission to inspire love of land across generations, conservation of our unique Monterey County landscapes, and access to outdoor experiences for all. 2023 Arts + Architecture Lecture Series
Housing: Finding Solutions with Architecture
Housing: Finding Solutions with Architecture
Our 2023 lecture series is focused on the critical issue of Housing. The fact this has gotten to a crisis point in California and especially in locations like the Central Coast has been obvious for many years. Ever increasing housing prices have kept out not just people below the poverty line and the homeless but a significant percentage of the population from owning a home, and thereby preventing them from achieving the traditional American dream and the primary form of wealth creation.

Carmel Valley Association is one of the oldest, largest, and most successful community organizations in Monterey County. We are entirely volunteer, with no paid employees. Our mission is to defend the beauty, resources and rural character of our beautiful valley. We do that by working with residents, businesses, and government.
CVA was instrumental in the adoption of the Carmel Valley Master Plan and recently settled a lawsuit with Monterey County regarding traffic measurement and capping future development on very favorable terms for our valley. Our volunteer experts represent Carmel Valley's interest, testifying before governmental bodies concerning development, water, traffic, road signs, and other quality of life issues.
We keep valley residents informed about important issues and events with our weekly email Bulletin, which goes to over 1650 residents, and our quarterly Newsletter, which is mailed to over 7,000 valley addresses.
