Carnevali Foundation Renovates the
Gajularamaram School

Radhika (CF India Director) and Jackie (CF President) have been working together for 18 years, renovating and improving Government Schools in Hyderabad, India. The Government Education Office provides a list of needy schools and the team carefully selects the next project.

If the ground is all rock, it is not possible to dig borewells or build water harvesting pits. If the premises are too small, a library or kitchen cannot be added. If the school is too close to the street,

a boundary wall cannot be provided.

Outdoor Classrooms Under Tents

At the Gajularamaram School renovation, children attend classes and teachers continue their lessons during construction.

This often means setting up classes under tents or shifting students from one space to another. The faculty is attentive to safety during demolition, debris removal, excavation, and the delivery of building materials.

Plumbing Works

Plumbing is redirected to the toilet block, drinking and handwashing stations, and the RO/clean water systems. The renovation plan is detailed and approved in advance.

Water quality is regularly tested. The availability of water is always a key concern and is often addressed by installing a water harvesting pit (read more in our Blog article on Water Scarcity).

Kitchen Exterior

At the Gajularamaram School, there is no need to replace the existing kitchen. Only paint, plaster, shelving, and a larger outdoor platform for serving are needed.

A shed will be built on the right side of the building to house an

RO system for potable water. To the right of the RO shed, housing will be built for an Ayaah and watchman to provide security and cleaning.

Kitchen Interior

Pots, pans, and food will be stored inside the kitchen, and the renovation work will address mold and cracks in the kitchen walls.

Food is prepared using a gas tank, safely away from children. The Education Office provides two women to cook fresh vegetables, lentils, and rice, ensuring that a generous lunch is served to the children each day.

Colorfully Decorated Classrooms

This Gajularamaram School renovation will include a library, a staff room, and a new second story for classrooms for the growing number of students.

Colorful paintings of famous people, animals, and maps will decorate the walls!

Our Operations Manager Chandrasekr

Standing on the left is Chandrasekr, CF India’s Operations Manager and our very first employee. He and Radhika develop the budget, timeline, agreements, and overall renovation plan.

They communicate regularly with the headmistress and the local parent committee to keep everyone on track.
