Afonso Promoted to Associate Professor
|

|

I just want to share the wonderful and entirely unsurprising news that Whitney’s promotion to associate professor with tenure has been approved. Whitney does a great job in all aspects of our work. She teaches as a core faculty member in the MPA Program and has been incredibly productive in publishing peer-reviewed articles in the leading public finance and budgeting journals. Not surprisingly, she has developed a national reputation as a leader in her field. The editor of a leading journal recently sent me a letter praising to the heavens her work in organizing a special virtual issue about trends in sales tax on e-commerce following a Supreme Court decision. Whitney is a very good teacher, both for MPA students and in courses for public officials. The following comment from a public official was included in her review committee’s report: “Power to the tax nerds everywhere! I think I may have found their goddess or at least Yoda.” Whitney takes a subject that some consider dry or difficult and makes it interesting and enjoyable. She has a passion for her field and its importance, and for data, and that comes through in all of her work at the School. Whitney also is an incredibly good colleague and citizen of the School. She is willing to pitch in by serving on committees and by helping out with other administrative assignments. Please join me in congratulating Whitney on her promotion to associate professor.
