All MPA Students are Invited to Drawing Classes "Sketchy at Best"
|
Hi Everyone,
I’ve partnered with the School’s Wellness Committee to offer mindful drawing classes a couple of times per month. “Sketchy at Best” classes will be short, half-hour drawing exercises designed to work on some skills. Drawing is not hard, you just need some basic tools like pencils, pens, and paper—and it can also be very relaxing! There is no such thing as a bad drawing.
Drawing is an essential way to communicate. It’s also very personal, it’s kind of like handwriting in that the more you work on it, the more you are comfortable with it and the more your personality shines through. I’m also hoping it gives some of us who don’t work together an opportunity to meet a chat a bit in the online work environment.
The “Sketchy at Best” exercises will be offered via Zoom, and they’ll take place in the middle of the afternoon when most of us can use a short break. The first two will take place as follows:
March 23, at 12:30–1 p.m. - Activity 1: Blind Contour Drawing of an Object (aka Drawing a Thing Without Looking at Your Paper)
April 6, at 12:30-1 p.m. – Activity 2: Blind Contour Drawing of Yourself on Zoom (aka Drawing Yourself While Not Looking at Your Paper)
Please let me know (via your UNC email) if you are interested in attending—these two, or any others in the future—and I’ll send you the Zoom and meeting information. MPA Students are welcome to join in the fun! If we decide that “Sketchy at Best” is worthwhile, I’ll add more and different sessions.
Have a great weekend,
--Robby Poore

Thanks go out to Carolina MPA alumnus and faculty member Donna Warner for talking to us about the importance of mindfulness and leading us through a Five Good Minutes Exercise. If you missed it, or would like to do the exercise again, a recording is here.
