A New Student Recognition and
Professional Development Opportunity

The Urban Affairs Association has established the first international honor society to recognize the academic achievements of undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in urban studies and related fields.

Urban Studies is a broad umbrella term for academic programs and research that focus on the social, political, economic, spatial, physical, historical, cultural, and environmental dynamics of urban contexts. Elements of urban studies can be found in several different disciplines, as well as within explicitly interdisciplinary fields such as urban affairs and urban planning. Given the varied academic homes for urban studies, eligibility for participation in the Society will be judged on the basis of individual program attributes.

Agata Hauser, our speaker , is a lecturer in the Constitutional Law Department at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. Judiciary Reforms in Poland as a Threat to the Principle of the Rule of Law
March 6, 5:30-7 PM
4003 FedEx Global Education Center

In December, the European Commission proposed to the Council to adopt a decision under Article 7(1) of the Treaty on European Union against Poland. Article 7 provides that the Council may determine that there is a clear risk of a serious breach by a member state of the values referred to in Article 2, which includes, inter alia, the rule of law. This provision is sometimes referred to as the ‘nuclear option,’ because of the related sanctioning mechanism that would suspend Poland's voting rights in the EU. The Commission decided to take this step in view of the fact that Poland has adopted several laws affecting the judiciary: the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, and the National Judiciary Council. This presentation from will detail potential effects of the recent legislative changes on the principle of separation of powers & the rule of law in order to determine if the risk perceived by the Commission is real.

PlayMakers Rep is very proud to host a FREE symposium with two national luminaries in the world of religious scholarship:

The program will offer a rare opportunity for substantive exploration of how belief/faith serves us both personally and collectively. Also, what is at risk when doctrine is either taken to extremes or no longer feels relevant and vital.  It will be led by UNC's own Bart D. Ehrman , Ph.D., James A. Gray Distinguished Professor in the Department of Religious Studies, and Robert M. Franklin , Gr., Ph.D., James T. and Berta R. Laney Professor in Moral Leadership at Emory University's Candler School of Theology
