Carolina MPA News and Announcements
Fall Immersion Topic Announced

Title: Collaborative Governance and Collective Impact
Faculty: Dr. Ricardo Morse and Dr. John Stephens

Collaboration across boundaries (jurisdiction, sector) is a central aspect of public service leadership today. Complex or “wicked” public problems cannot be adequately addressed by a single agency. Rather, concerted action that leverages the strengths of various stakeholders is required to see results. In public administration, the concept of “collaborative governance” is commonly used to describe this kind of boundary-crossing work, while elsewhere the framework of “collective impact” is used. Utilizing a combination of readings, case studies, and exercises, this course will explore these frames, particularly how they inform our understanding of leadership for collective impact.

Please join us in the fall term in this great 1.5-hour elective course! Dates are Oct. 25-27 in Chapel Hill, NC!

Alongside Kristina Lambright of Binghamton University, Jacobson conducted interviews with 40 county HR directors from New York and North Carolina.
Faculty member  Carl Stenberg   testified before a congressional task force on intergovernmental relations on May 17, 2018.
