Vendor of the Week:
Sari Sari Sweets
The Heintzman family sells sweet and savory pastries made with as many local ingredients as they can find. Leslie is the baker, her husband Chris helps with sales, their oldest son Dag is a taste tester, and up-and-comer Maximus fills the important role of Pastry Thief. Everything is baked each Friday before the Saturday Market and every Wednesday morning before the Wednesday Market. They purchase all of their flour from Lindley Mills, and during the different seasons they buy or pick fruit or vegetables from a variety of farmers at the Market.
Fun Facts
"Sari Sari" means "variety" in Tagalog, the Filipino language.
Leslie has a culinary arts degree from the Culinary Institute of America.
Chris is also a martial arts instructor and teaches traditional Chinese Kung Fu.

What's Happening at Market
Happy Friday!
We hope everyone safely survived this week of storms and wind and unpredictable North Carolina weather!
Speaking of the weather, the Climate Listening Project has recently captured thoughts on climate change from several farmers across the nation, including Ken Dawson from Maple Spring Gardens.
There's no denying that climate change is a heavy issue, but I was inspired by their willingness to embrace uncertainty and find opportunity in change. Sustainable farmers have been working to create resilient systems before climate change was even on our radar, and that is good news! Check out the video below.

Climate Listening Project Feature: Cultivating Resilience |
"I don't have any doubt that people will continue to adapt and grow and learn in the face of whatever radical changes come along. But I don't think it's going to be easy."
- Ken Dawson, Maple Spring Gardens
Here are some other great resources on the topic of climate change and agriculture!

Open Door Farm
Open Door Farm will be at Market this Saturday!
Hi! We are Jillian and Ross Mickens and we are new to the Carrboro Farmers Market in 2016. Open Door Farm is located in Cedar Grove in Northern Orange County. You can expect us at market year-round with tons of organically grown produce and cut flowers. This week we'll be bringing one of our specialities: microgreens! Microgreens (also referred to as shoots) are basically the seedlings of plants like broccoli, kale, beets and many others. They are packed with flavor and nutrition and are very versatile in the kitchen and make a great addition to salads, sandwiches, smoothies and many other dishes. Learn more about microgreens and our farm on our
website

Chapel Hill Creamery
Chapel Hill Creamery will be at Market Saturday!
This is a picture of Duluth who was born to Duchess. She's 2 weeks old and beautiful and thinks I'm bringing her something to eat!
Saturday
we'll have Carolina Moon, which is our version of a Brie; try it in a grilled cheese sandwich with some sautéed mushrooms and onions. Or gently bake a round with hot pepper jelly and a sprinkling of nuts on the top side after trimming off the rind while it is cold. Or trim the rind and stir cubes into pasta with some pasta water and top with sautéed vegetables. Or more simply: let it warm to room temperature and serve with crackers. The smooth texture and rich Jersey milk makes it hard to resist.
Other cheeses include New Moon, 7 month old Calvander, Dairyland Farmers, Smoked Farmers, Pheta, and Hickory Grove.
We have
Breakfast Sausage in bulk,
Sage and
Maple Breakfast in links,
Chorizo, Smoked Andouille, Polish, Mild Italian, and
Hot Italian made from whey fed pigs on our farm. We'll also have
Spare Ribs, ground pork, and ground beef. Try the
Chorizo in a taco with our
Dairyland Farmers Cheese. Bon Appetit!
