Meet Our Guest Vendor
Honeygirl Meadery
Honeygirl Meadery is a small urban meadery in downtown Durham, making an ancient craft beverage for modern days. Mead is essentially wine made from honey, with many different styles that include additions of fruits, flowers and herbs. Our meads are hand-crafted libations made in small batches, using both local and global true source honey, local fruits, herbs and flowers. They are naturally gluten free. Our downtown Durham Tasting Room is open on Saturdays from
1-6pm & Sundays
1-5pm.
Strawberry mead
: This mead begins in the strawberry patch at McAdams Farm in Efland, NC. We ferment the berries with NC wildflower honey. Fresh and fragrant, light-bodied and dry, with a soft, lingering strawberry finish. Pairing notes: soft ripened cheeses, quiche, summer salads, with champagne for a mimosa.
Hibiscus Lemonthyme mead: This recipe won our first ribbon at the 2012 NC State Fair. Earthy, floral, dry- style with honey finish. NC wildflower honey, hibiscus flowers, lemonthyme. Pairing notes: herbed chicken, lemony kale salad, goat cheese
Lavender mead: This mead infuses fresh-dried local lavender flowers from Sunshine Lavender Farm into our orange blossom traditional semi-sweet mead. The result is flowery and honeyed, yet also earthy and savory. Pairing notes: roasted lamb, greek salad, lemon risotto, cheesecake
Blueberry mead: This mead has subtle plum and tart berry notes, balanced with honey sweetness. Made with local blueberries and NC wildflower honey. Pairing notes: aromatic cheeses, pastrami reuben, dark chocolate, salami
Wildwood mead: This dry-style traditional mead is made with a dark, NC wildflower honey with buckwheat, molasses and sorghum notes. It was then aged with French oak to accent the boldness of the honey. Pairing notes: grilled steak, bratwurst, dark chocolate cake

The Farmer Foodshare Donation Station program collects donations of fresh food and cash from customers at the Carrboro Farmers' Market. The money is used directly at the Market to purchase food from farmers. That food is then directly donated to those who are hungry in our community. The Carrboro Farmers' Market Donation Station is partnered with TABLE, IFC Food Pantry, Immigrant and Refugee Community Partnership, and PORCH.
Look for the Donation Station at the Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and visit
www.farmerfoodshare.org
to find out how to volunteer!

Food Waste Drop Off Program
Market visitors can bring all of their food waste from home and drop it off at the Carrboro Compost Collection during SaturdayMarket hours! The Carrboro Farmers' Market, Orange County Solid Waste Management, and a team of compost monitor volunteers set up a collection site for visitors to drop off compostable food waste year round, every Saturday. This isn't your run of the mill backyard compost! The Compost Collection goes to a commercial composting company, Brooks Contractor, who accepts a wide range of materials. All food scraps and food related paper can be composted at the market, including fruits, vegetables, meat, fat, bones, and dairy products as well as soiled napkins, paper towels, and plates. Look for the sign, the cart, and bring us your food waste! No plastic, metal, UPC produce stickers, or other non-compostable items, please.
If you are interested in getting involved with compost collection and education, please contact Muriel Williman at Muriel@orangecountync.gov.

What's Happening at Market
Happy
Friday everyone
!
Tomorrow marks the final day of
National Farmers Market Week! We had fun serving up food samples and hearing the kids say such amazing things about CFM this past Wednesday! We know you don't need more reasons to love the Carrboro Farmers' Market, but we like bragging - so here are few more!
Farmers Markets...
Stimulate local economies. The Carrboro Farmers' Market has a 4.1 million dollar economic impact on the local economy each year!
Increase access to fresh, nutritious food. We accept SNAP/EBT (food stamp) benefits at Market ensuring that shoppers on this program have access to fresh and healthy food. Thanks to
UNC Health Care, and
Burt's Bees we offer additional healthy food incentive dollars to SNAP/EBT and WIC shoppers to help families stretch their food dollars! Through customer and vendor donations to
Farmer Foodshare, hundreds of pounds of fresh foods get to families in our community that need it each week.
Support healthy communities. Each time shoppers visit the Market, they have the opportunity to learn about new foods directly from the farmers that grew them. Also, through programming like our
Market Bunch Kids Club and educational events, food demos and tastings, the Market plays a key role by encouraging healthy eating and healthy lifestyles!
None of this impact would be possible without our shoppers! We are so grateful for the thousands of shoppers that come out each week. You all are the ones that make it such an important place.
If you want to take your support of the Market even further, consider becoming a
Market Perennial
. Market Perennials regularly make small contributions to the Market to help us fulfill our mission!
Our next market event is coming up soon...
Upcoming Events at market!

8/19/17 - National Honey Bee Day
8/23/17 - People's Pepper Festival

Gardener's Corner -
Autumn Planting
With summer now half over it's time to get the fall garden planted. Winter hearty crops like Collards, Kale, Beets, Chard and Carrots would be some of the choices available, as well as Arugula and fall Potatoes. Many crops can be started in flats and transplanted out with the exception of Carrots which can only be direct seeded. Plant carrots no more than 1/4 inch deep and keep wet until they emerge, which usually takes around 8 days. If you are thinking of growing strawberries be sure and order your plants early from the nurseries.

Lots of Fresh Mozzarella and lots of our delicious sausage and Spare Ribs
this Saturday! Our pork comes from our whey fed pigs and the sausage is made from the hams so they are meaty with spices we think you'll like. We will have Spare Ribs, Mild Italian, Hot Italian, Bratwurst, Chorizo, Mild Breakfast, Sage and Maple Breakfast links, ground pork, and a little bacon. Get our you grills for some fabulous sausage, Spare Ribs, or burgers with our flavorful ground beef. Andrea Reusing from Lantern Restaurant (
www.
andreareusing
.com) has been generous in letting us share her recipe for Spare Ribs from her book Cooking in the Moment: A Year of Seasonal Recipes. Pick up a copy when you buy some ribs.
We are making Mozzarella while tomatoes are at their peak, so get it now! We will also have fresh Dairyland Farmers cheese, Hickory Grove, and a little Carolina Moon. Add Dairyland Farmers to tomato sandwiches, cucumber salads, or Chile Rellanos. Carolina Moon which is in the family of Camembert and Brie is a rich and buttery; it's a favorite for an appetizer with figs or hot pepper jelly.
Hickory Grove Cheese is our own recipe and has a luscious texture at room temperature and is fabulous for melting. Great for snacking or melting on a cheeseburger with our beef. All our cheese comes from the milk of our Animal Welfare Approved cows, and since they are Jersey cows, we have rich, delicious milk to use for flavorful cheeses.
