The money is used directly at the Market to purchase food from farmers. That food is then directly donated to those who are hungry in our community. The Carrboro Farmers' Market Donation Station is partnered with TABLE, IFC Food Pantry, Immigrant and Refugee Community Partnership, and PORCH.
Look for the Donation Station at the Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and visit   www.farmerfoodshare.org  to find out how to volunteer!
Food Waste Drop Off Program

Market visitors can bring all of their food waste from home and drop it off at the Carrboro Compost Collection during SaturdayMarket hours! The Carrboro Farmers' Market, Orange County Solid Waste Management, and a team of compost monitor volunteers set up a collection site for visitors to drop off compostable food waste year round, every Saturday. This isn't your run of the mill backyard compost! The Compost Collection goes to a commercial composting company, Brooks Contractor, who accepts a wide range of materials. All food scraps and food related paper can be composted at the market, including fruits, vegetables, meat, fat, bones, and dairy products as well as soiled napkins, paper towels, and plates.   Look for the sign, the cart, and bring us your food waste!  No plastic, metal, UPC produce stickers, or other non-compostable items, please.

If you are interested in getting involved with compost collection and education, please contact Muriel Williman at Muriel@orangecountync.gov.

You can also sign up to volunteer online on our Sign Up Genius page: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050a44a8ac2ba75-saturday

Happy Friday!

It's the big July 4th weekend and we've got everything you need for your picnics and your grill! July is one of the busiest times of the year for farmers. There's lots and lots to harvest, and getting all of that produce out of the field and ready to be sold at Market is a huge task! I am always amazed at the sheer quantity of produce the vendors are bringing out to Market each summer. Trucks and tables are packed to the brim, and there are multiple varieties of just about everything. Then there's the weeding, watering, cleaning up from storm damage, and more chores that farmers still need to get done each week!

We are certainly hitting the thick of peak season at Market, and all your favorites are in - tomatoes, melons, eggplant, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, peppers, cabbage, new potatoes, blueberries, and more!

Don't forget about our huge selection of meat and poultry for the grill,  along with artisan breads and pastries!

Next Saturday, July 8th is Tomato Day! You don't want to miss this incredible celebration of everything Tomato!

*Q+A and Book Signing with Tomato Expert Craig LeHoullier - Craig will be signing and selling his book Epic Tomatoes, and he is ready to answer all your tomato questions!

*The Giant Tomato Day Raffle - Over 25 incredible local businesses & market vendors have donated to our Tomato Day raffle, and every purchase gets you a chance to win! Stock up on raffle tickets and turn them in by the end of Market!

*Fun for the Kids - We will have a special kids only tomato trivia!

*Recipes, live music by Gabriel Pelli, a list of all the tomato varieties and the farmers that grow them, samples at several vendors' booths, and more!
Only 1 weeks away !
You don't want to miss this event !

Gardener's Corner -
A farmer-led revolution....

Ten years before Paul Revere made his famous ride, Orange County NC farmers formed  "The Regulators" to oppose the oppressive rule of King George III. Lord Governor Tryon sent the Redcoat militia up from New Bern and the "Battle of Alamance" ensued just south of what is now Burlington, NC. The story tragically ends with five Regulator ringleaders being hanged down by the Eno River in Hillsborough, but the seeds of the American Revolution had now been sown by a bunch of local North Carolina farmers.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Grilled Chicken Wings:

Nothing says  4th of July like a BBQ! And not much is better in the BBQ than bratwurst and chicken wings. Bratwurst is pretty self-explanatory but wings take a little more finesse. Here's   Dawnbreaker Farms' Chicken Wing Recipe for Success!

1. Fire up the grill.
2. While the grill is heating up go ahead and add your favorite rub or marinade to the wings. A simple salt and olive oil rub will suffice.
3. Put the wings on the grill and cover for 15-20 minutes or until done.

That's it! Simple, easy, healthy and delicious!

We will be fully stocked with our   pasture-raised and GMO-Free chicken. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to reach out to us at  ben@dawnbreakerfarms.com

Cingh Neam and her family are excited to be at the Carrboro Farmers' Market this winter! Cingh Neam is a Chin refugee from Burma. This is her first year farming in the winter because seasons in North Carolina are different than in Burma. Cingh Neam is a farmer at Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, a non-profit educational farm for refugees, located on Jones Ferry Road. She is thankful to have the opportunity to continue her agricultural traditions and pursue her dreams of becoming a full-time farmer.

This Saturday, Mu Tar K'Paw Gardens will bring a variety of beautiful and delicious greens, radishes, turnips, Asian vegetables (swiss chard, mustard greens, tatsoi), and eggs from healthy, free-range chickens. Cingh Neam, her husband, Maung Pau, and son, Thawng, are more than happy to answer any questions and about their organic growing practices or offer recipe suggestions. Come visit us and learn about new vegetables!

Blessed Earth Farm
Blessed Earth Farm will be at Market!

Greetings from Blessed Earth Farm this week!
Last Sat. I had an unfortunate event; a complete power outage from  2:00am on. Unfortunately, although I tried mightily, I feel asleep on my couch prior to delivering goods to Susan   BOO! Anyway, We'll try again to bring pickled beets, bread & butters, jalapeno pepper jelly and sweet cherry, almond vanilla spread.

As with all previous items this year, products are $8.00 (with the exception of pickled beets; they are $9.00/ea). Have a wonderful market  Saturday and I hope to see you there.

Chapel Hill Creamery
Chapel Hill Creamery will be at Market!
July Fourth is coming already!  We have cheese, sausage, and spare ribs for grilling. Try a sample of our Pheta when you come to market. It is aged in a salt brine which is the traditional method. It has a tangy bite but also has the rich flavor of our Jersey cows' milk that customers love. It adds some punch to any salad  or pasta dish. Toss with watermelon cubes, Tabouli, or green beans. Our tangy, fresh Dairyland Farmers is made each week; it's milk one day and cheese the next. It's especially good with tomatoes; use it in a sandwich, a salad of cubed tomatoes and basil, or in a taco with fresh salsa. Made each week, it is milk one day and cheese the next, so it's moist and refreshing.
We'll also have Carolina Moon which is creamy like a Brie. It naturally ripens which means it get softer and develops more flavor as it ages. Use as an appetizer or serve it with crusty bread to pair with a salad or cooked vegetables for a quick meal. Hickory Grove Cheese is our own recipe and has a luscious texture at room temperature and is fabulous for melting. Enjoy with crackers, in an omelet, or on a cheeseburger.
Our pork comes from our whey fed pigs, and sausages are made with the hams for a meaty taste. Choose from Mild Italian, Hot Italian, Chorizo, and Sage and Maple Breakfast. We hope to pick up more sausage before Saturday and will have even more to choose from. We'll also have spare ribs, ground pork, and a little ground beef. Pick up one of our recipes, taste some samples, and have a great weekend and July fourth.
