Common Hope:
Introducing Josué, our new sponsored student

Hennepin Ave United Methodist Church partners with Common Hope to help students and families in Guatemala break the cycle of poverty. As a church we sponsor two students in Guatemala.

Since celebrating the high school graduation of our student Bryan at the end of 2020, we are excited to introduce to you our new student Josué!

We also continue to sponsor Ana, our young student in San Rafael village. Our sponsorship is helping Ana and Josué gain an education while also supporting all the vital programming Common Hope provides to their families in the areas of education, healthcare, housing, and family development.

We are excited to celebrate with Common Hope in their 35th anniversary year! Stay tuned for ways to join in the celebration, like joining our Walk For Hope Team in June! www.commonhope.org
Update on the Envision Community: 2021 Info Session
Saturday January 23, 2021, 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Zoom

Exciting things are happening for Envision Community! A site has been identified for the 2-year demonstration!

As part of the Envision collaborative, the congregation of Hennepin can spread the word about this unique effort to address homelessness in our city.

Envision is more than just a tiny home village, it is a place where people experiencing homelessness can elevate themselves to be designers, problem-solvers, and decision-makers for the community they created. (Learn more at EnvisionCommunityMN.org).

Envision continues to grow into a community where people find peace and belong with the support and prayers of many organizations including our congregation.

There will be community meetings to discuss the plans for 4122 Fremont Ave N. If you live, work or own property in the Webber-Camden neighborhood, please consider attending.

Please pass an invitation to anyone you know who may have an interest or connection to the property.

The meeting will be on Saturday January 23, 2021, 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Can’t attend a meeting? Go to envisioncommunitymn.org/fremont and complete our brief community survey.

Free COVID-19 Testing at Hennepin
Thursday, January 28
11am-4pm in the Social Hall, Hennepin Avenue UMC

Hennepin Avenue UMC is once again partnering with the Minneapolis Department of Health to offer free COVID-19 testing. This time, the health department will be administering saliva tests instead of nasal swabs.

Results are emailed to you 24-48 hours after taking the test.

A few details:

How the saliva test works
You must not eat, drink, chew or smoke anything for at least 30 minutes before starting a saliva test.

At the testing location, you will receive a kit and use your smartphone to scan a QR code that brings you a testing website. Once on the site, a health care professional will tell you how to take the test, but you will do it yourself.

You will spit into a funnel attached to a tube. Producing the required amount of saliva usually takes 10-12 minutes.

When your container is filled to the line, take off the collection funnel and screw on the cap with blue preservatives. Keep screwing on the cap until the divider between the blue preservative and your saliva sample cracks and you can shake the vial to mix the blue preservative and saliva together. Shake the vial for 5 seconds.

Finally, walk your vial to the submission table and throw away the packaging from the testing kit. Your sample will get sent to a lab.

You will get your results emailed to you within 24-48 hours. If you don’t have an email, you’ll get a call at the phone number you provided.

What to expect at the testing site:

Wear a mask or face covering if you can.

You can show either your confirmation email/text or tell staff your name, birthdate, and address.

Bring your insurance card if you have health insurance. The test will be 100% at no cost to you whether or not you have insurance. If you do, we may ask your insurance company to help pay for your test.

Each person getting tested will need to have their own email address and a phone number to receive your results.

If you don't get your results, please email mn@vaulthealth.com or call 800-800-5698.
