Your Weekly Update from the GREAT Carver Middle School!
Friday, August 30, 2019
|
Today we already finish what has been a very quick first three weeks of the new school year. In fact, we will be sending out the first student progress report on September 16th.
As you probably already know, Hurricane Dorian appears to be making its way straight towards Florida. After closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian and in coordination with state and local officials regarding shelters, all OCPS schools and work locations will be closed on Tuesday, September 3 after the Labor Day holiday.
Please be sure to check the OCPS website - click here - for the very latest on the hurricane's impact on next week's schedule and activities. It will be updated as more information becomes available.
September 15th kicks off Spanish Heritage Month across the United States. Here in Florida, the Governor's Office runs an annual essay contest for students with the winners receiving 4-year college scholarships. The deadline for submitting entries this year is September 13th. This is an opportunity that may interest many of our Bears - details and more information.
We do need volunteers this school year. If you are a member of our Carver school community, please consider becoming a "ADDitions volunteer" for Carver. One hour of your time as able can make a HUGE difference for our students!
Ways you can help the students include teaching our kids to play card games, board games, and giving them advice on future careers and furthering their education. And we have students that simply just want to talk and we need people like YOU!
Please stop by the media center and see Ms. M. if you have any questions on how you can help or get your community involved.
As for this week's edition, you will find some important events coming up as well as activities that are available to our Bears. We encourage all of our students to consider getting involved in some form of extracurricular activity this year as part of their middle school experience.
