Downtown Detour Begins September 5

The closure of the intersection at W. Main St. and Spring St., originally scheduled for 8/29/23, has been moved to 9/5/23 as the Village's Downtown Streetscape project continues. During this phase of construction, contractors will be pouring a concrete base and installing pavers with the Village name within the intersection, which will act as a welcoming gateway to the downtown area.

Detour routes have been established for both eastbound and westbound traffic around the intersection. Accommodations will be made for downtown businesses to receive deliveries during the detour. It is expected that the detour will be in place for approximately three (3) weeks. The Village of Cary appreciates your patience during this phase of construction

  • Westbound traffic will be directed onto Jandus Road after crossing the railroad tracks, westward on Cary Street to High Road, and back on to W. Main Street.
  • Eastbound traffic will be directed south on High Road, eastward on Cary Street, southeast on Jandus Road, and northeast on Jandus Cutoff Road to Route 14.

The exhibit below provides a map of the detour routes:

McHenry County Water Forum

September 13, 2023

The McHenry County Water Forum provides an opportunity for residents, businesses and elected officials to learn what makes the region's water supplies special and how water resources can be protected into the future.

This free program is held every fall at the McHenry County College and features presentations by scientists, planners, and engineers who specialize in water resources. By the end of the program, attendees have a more solid understanding about water resources in McHenry County and are better informed to make decisions affecting the water supplies we all depend on.

This year's topic is "Water Conservation", which is vital to support growth and protect water supplies in the county.

No registration is required. The event will be catered.

For more information, visit www.mchenryH2O.com or email Scott Kuykendall at SHKuykendall@mchenrycountyil.gov.

Village Has Moved to Yellow Condition for Outdoor Water Usage

The Village of Cary is currently in the Yellow Condition (Conservation) of the Outdoor Water Use Ordinance.

In the Yellow Condition, the watering of lawns with sprinklers or automated irrigation systems is only permitting on an even/odd schedule during certain hours to help conserve water.

  • Properties with even addresses are permitted to water in the morning from 12:00AM to 9:00AM and/or the evening from 6:00PM to midnight on their respective even-numbered days.

  • Properties with odd addresses are permitted to water in the morning from 12:00AM to 9:00AM and/or the evening from 6:00PM to midnight on their respective odd-numbered days.

Hand watering and normal household uses of water are unaffected by this condition.

This shift to the Yellow Condition is due to the current severe drought condition in the area as well as the ongoing water tower rehabilitation and painting project in the Village.

If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at CaryPW@caryillinois.com.

Even/Odd Days:

  • Even: Properties with even numbered addresses (ex. 454 Cary Woods Circle) can irrigate/sprinkle lawns on even numbered calendar days (ex. June 10)
  • Odd: Properties with odd numbered addresses (ex. 755 Georgetown Drive) can irrigate/sprinkle lawns on odd numbered calendar days (ex. June 11)
