Trick-or-Treat Hours

October 31

Trick-or-Treat hours in the Village of Cary will take place on Monday, October 31st from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips

The Village wishes all area children a safe and happy Halloween. The Village recommends that children follow these guidelines so they may have an enjoyable and safe evening:

  • Have your parents or a responsible adult go trick-or-treating with you.
  • Trick-or-Treat in groups in your own neighborhood or an area that is familiar to you.
  • Wear a costume that makes it easy for you to walk, see and be seen.

Wait until you get home to eat your treats. Have a responsible adult check them first. Throw away any candy or food that is not wrapped or looks like it may have been tampered with. If you find any suspicious treats, tell a responsible adult.

Recreational Vehicle Storage Reminder

October 31

As the weather begins to cool, the Village would like to remind residents that recreational vehicles or equipment associated with summer use must be placed in permanent storage by October 31. This includes, but is not limited to, travel trailers, campers, watercraft and all-terrain vehicles. Recreational vehicles must be placed in one of the following three locations:

  1. Within a fully enclosed structure
  2. Between the rear of the principal building and the rear lot line
  3. Within an area between the principal building and a side lot line not facing a street

If storing under options 2 or 3, the vehicle must be screened. If you have questions regarding recreational vehicle and equipment storage, you are encouraged to contact Community Development at (847) 639-1100.

Cary Winter Farmer's Market

Shop for local produce, baked goods, eggs, crafters and more on the first and third Sundays of the month, October through April, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Algonquin Township Building #6.

Algonquin Township is located at 3702 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake, IL.

Help Keep Our Storm Drains Clear

The Village reminds all Cary residents that it is against Village Code to rake or blow leaves into Cary streets. The Village Code prohibits the deposit of leaves or any other unapproved substance onto Village streets. Debris in the streets, such as leaves, can clog stormwater inlets, thereby restricting stormwater and increasing the possibility for flooding. If you are concerned about potential violators of this ordinance, you are encouraged to call the Village at (847) 639-0003.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Cybersecurity Basics for Passwords and Password Management

According to the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, creating long, random and unique passwords is a critical step to protecting yourself online. Using long passwords is the easiest ways to defend yourself from cybercrime. The most secure way to store all your unique passwords is by using a password manager. With just one password, a computer can create and save passwords for every account that you have - protecting your online information, including credit card numbers and their three-digit codes, answers to security questions, and more.

Stronger Passwords Increase Security

Use a long passphrase with 12 or more characters. Use the longest password or passphrase permissible. For example, you can use a password manager or passphrase such as a news headline or even the title of the last book you read.

Don't make passwords easy to guess. Do not include personal information in your password such as your name or pets' names. This information is often easy to find on social media, making it easier for cybercriminals to hack your accounts.

Keep passwords on the down low.  Do not tell anyone your passwords and watch for attackers trying to trick you into revealing your passwords through email or by phone. Every time you share or reuse a password, it chips away at your security by opening more ways with which it could be misused or stolen.

Use unique passwords. Having different passwords for various accounts helps prevent cyber criminals from gaining access to these accounts and protects you in the event of a breach.
