Our Peace & Justice team has been supporting Casa Samaritano shelter located in Hidalgo Mexico. As people in Mexico and Central America flee north from violence, extreme poverty, and drought conditions in their countries, they stop at shelters along the route north to get a warm meal, a place to rest a few hours, first aid, and some change of clothing.
Casa del Samaritano, (House of the Samaritan), is one such way-station shelter northeast of Mexico City. It is run by four Catholic Sisters of the Sacred Hearts.
These men, women and children are just trying to find a safe place to live and work. They risk everything, including their lives, to reach our border.
