I hope our Labor Day Cassie Update finds you well and your business thriving in the 3rd Quarter! It really died here in August, after a strong 6 months to start the year.
We opened the year with a fantastic sale on all our add-on software as well as the Operating System for the first time in our 25-year history. Bogart for the Linux Standalones and Bogart for Windows had never been on sale, but I thought there was a good reason to get everyone on the latest and greatest OS, which is Bogart 12. I will begin to explain below.
Since most of our users are Weddings & Events Videographers, whose video productions are usually long, we had to design a system that could edit 2 to 3 weddings or events per week. As Full 2K HD and 4K UHD cameras proliferate the market now at low price points, we had to add speed capabilities to the new Bogart 12 OS. Bogart version 1 goes back to 2007, and UHD was a pipe dream then. So, it was a major overhaul with all kinds of new code to make us more productive and competitive.
The downside was Bogart 1 through 11 could not be adapted to the new world and can no longer be updated beyond its whole number. In other words, the final version of Bogart 11 was 11.6, Bogart 10 was 10.9, and so on: Bogart 9.15, Bogart 8.20, Bogart 7.23, and Bogart 6.25. While these older versions can do 2K, it just takes longer, and you should be fine if you don’t have tight deadlines.
But we don’t want to leave anybody behind after 25 years of loyal support, so we have lowered the Bogart 12 Gold price to $299, and until September 30, we are giving another 20% off Bogart 12 for Windows and the Linux Standalones for only $239. Upgrading from earlier versions is even cheaper:

Bogart 12.3 Windows now leverages the new graphic drivers from Intel and Nvidia for quicker renders. Not many Cultists use the Nvidia, but nearly everyone has an Intel i5-6000 to i9-11900 processor, and the new Intel firmware really improves performance on Bogart 12 for Windows (make sure the Intel Quick Sync Video Acceleration checkmark is checked in the Arabesk Settings Menu). The Nvidia speeds up data processing even more, but it is very expensive hardware with the chip shortage, shipping, and installation (At least $600 extra as of Sept 7, 2021).
Bogart 12.3 for Windows should be available this week. Launch your Bogart and click on Settings. At the bottom it will say ‘Search for update’. Click it. If it says 12.2 after install come back soon for 12.3. When Germany eventually links the Update button to 12.3 for Windows, go ahead and download it if you have purchased a Bogart 12 license number from your dealer. The Search for update button is all automatic, so do nothing until it finishes the install. Before installing Bogart 12.3 for Windows, now would be the time to make all the updates to your system:
· Do an update to your Windows 10 (Pro) with the Internet connected. Click the Windows Icon in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, then the gear icon about an inch above, then Update & Security, then the ‘Check for updates’ button. This could take quite a while, particularly if you are not in the habit of updating Windows 10. Version 21H1, OS build 19043.1165 is the latest version.
· Click Here for the latest Intel July 14, 2021, Driver Update, and the optional Nvidia August 10 Laptop and Desktop Drivers (if you don’t have an Nvidia GPU, you don’t need to do a Nvidia update).
If you do not feel comfortable doing all this, we can take control of your system if you are on the Internet and do it remotely. For Casablanca 4 Systems we can do it for $200. All off the shelf PCs would be $250. Sometimes updates have not been performed for years, which may require shop service. If so, we would apply the 200 to $250 fee to the service fee. Best Buy’s Geek Squad, based on messes I have cleaned up from them, should probably be avoided. They have sold our customers hardware they did not need and left Bogart inoperable.

There are two new add-ons for Bogart 12.3 for Windows and Linux Standalone Bogart 12.2: Title FX 4 for $89 and Video Effects Pack 10 for $75. Or buy them both in a bundle for $139. These add-on programs will not work on Bogart 11 or earlier. Click here for a quick video of the Title FX 4 templates. The Video Effects Pack 10 has been getting rave reviews. Here is what one of our Beta Testers had to say: “This effects package has been the most pleasing addition for a long time. Here are some of my favorite additions and fixes in Bogart Windows 12.3:
1. WINDOWS: Update of all routines for import + export + Arabesk DVD / BD / UHD Disk Encoding for adaptation to future BogartSE features and INTEL/NVIDIA driver changes.
2. 1440x1080 photo and video footage now responds exclusively to the 'Adjust Aspect' setting and can therefore be used equally in 4:3 and 16:9 projects. There is no longer any automatic adjustment, because no software can know whether 1440x1080 should be 4:3 or anamorphic 16:9.
3. NEW: In the import menu, a 'cutout' function has been added under the preview image. With this, for example, a selectable area can be cut out of a UHD / 4k 'total' as 'medium total' or 'close'. This function can also be used to remove black borders from VHS transfers directly during import. If you fix the section to 1: 1 'project size', the size setting is blocked in the selection and it is sufficient to determine the position (in higher-resolution scenes).
4. WINDOWS: The import now also processes H.265 formats with 'Range Extension', such as the Canon XF-HEVC codec. HEVC = High Efficiency Video Codec (imports/exports 50% faster).
5. A bug when using self-imported True Type fonts with Bogart 12.1 has been fixed.
6. In the audio Mix, the PowerKey function 'right Ctrl + f' works again and finds the sound clip selected in storyboard Plus in the active tab 'Insert / replace sound Samples'.
7. With Storyboard PLUS display, the 'previous scene' button no longer hangs on transition effects.
8. Export: WINDOWS: Improved export for 30p/60i/60p files for better 29.97/59.94fps NTSC compatibility.
9. WINDOWS: Adjustments in Arabesk for Intel QuickSync encoding with current Intel drivers
10. WINDOWS: Adjustments in Arabesk to display drive information correctly.
11. WINDOWS: If green check marks are displayed under BogartSE / Settings / System / Hardware Test at INTEL, a check mark must also be set in Arabesk / Settings / "Use Intel QuickSync (Acceleration)"! Otherwise, there may be pixel disturbances in Blu-ray movies.
12. WINDOWS: HD Back-Up Sentry 2: The recovery of projects is significantly accelerated due to an optimized inspection routine.
13. WINDOWS: Project Environments: hard drives >2 TB NO LONGER cause errors when deleting all data.
14. WINDOWS: Project Environments: can now use huge hard drives and RAID systems.
15. More effect possibilities - with 20 LUTs and 30 lower band templates.
BogartSE 12 extends the Casablanca 3’s and HD-capable home entertainment systems, which have been in use for up to 17 years, with new functions (minimum requirement: 2 GB RAM and Arabesk 6 ). In accordance with the wishes of the loyal Bogart users, many improvements for the workflow and ease of use have been integrated into the new version.
IMPORTANT : Due to a change in the version activation,
a Bogart 12 activation code is required after installation !
A free update from Bogart 5 to Bogart 11 is therefore not possible!

The innovations in the Edit menu and in audio dubbing since Bogart 9 can only have an effect from a TV screen resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels or higher, as there is no space for all menus, the display of the effect tracks, the new ones on smaller screens Titler, the timeline, the tab controls and up to 9 audio tracks are available. We recommend a screen resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels.
The Bogart 12 for Linux highlights and fixes:
1. Easily switch from older versions - thanks to the v5-v12 option.
2. Greater convenience - thanks to exFAT and better jog shuttle support.
3. Faster editing - through image analysis and storyboard effect generation.
4. More effect possibilities - with 20 LUTs and 30 lower band templates.
5. Clearer dubbing - thanks to the new display of the current scene area
6. NEW: Bogart 12 also activates all earlier Bogart 5-11 versions when unlocked. This allows those who switch from very old versions to 'work their way up' according to their own learning pace, version by version. Or use any version that is newer than the previous one, but not as complex as the latest versions. IMPORTANT: Due to this change, a Bogart 12 activation code is required after installation! A free update from Bogart 5 to Bogart 11 is therefore not possible!
7. Changes made during the current day are now correctly recorded in the list of the 'most recently used projects'.

10. NEW: SDXC memory cards (also over 32GB!) And other data carriers with an exFAT file system can now be read. (Compatibility of media, card reader, USB connection etc. subject to change)
11. If an adjustment to the video format is carried out when importing into an empty project, the aspect of the preview window is now also adjusted correctly.
12. NEW: Split scenes according to picture content. In the 'extended split' menu there is now an additional switch next to the 'Auto' switch (if available) for a search for cuts in material. The sensitivity can be adjusted. An image analysis is carried out, which tries to find hard cuts, for example with DVD / BD import, in scanned film scanner files or VHS recordings.
13. NEW: When trimming in the small preview window, the Shuttle-TT Jog wheel is now supported to considerably increase comfort.
14. NEW: The Shuttle-TT jog shuttle can now also be used in the period menu. This means that the storyboard can be moved forwards and backwards at variable speeds, just like with previous tape recorders.
15. NEW: In the 'Opt' menu, 'Storyboard -> Scene' can be used to create a scene from the entire storyboard in the shelf.
16. NEW: Storyboard-> Scene now generates cutting information that can be used in the 'extended' division. For example, several long-term effects calculated in the storyboard can be created again as individual scenes in the shelf.
17. If a 'new scene' is created in the storyboard-> 'Search' filing due to different trims, the triangular markings 'in the storyboard' of the original and the new scene are now correct.
18. If a 'new scene' is created in the storyboard-> filing 'search' due to different trims, the new scene is also found correctly in the storyboard-> filing search.
19. NEW: Transition effect 'Audio Blende' with soft audio blending for hard cuts. The length of the audio transition can be influenced by the effect length, which leads to an even shortening of both scenes.
20. NEW: The RGB sliders in color selection windows can now also be addressed directly with the Power Key buttons 'r', 'g' and 'b'.
21. NEW: Special + long-term effects 'Apply LUT': The manual color adjustment of video material after recording (color grading) - can take a lot of time. As a rule, each color level must be adjusted until the composition of the picture is pleasing and fulfills the intended purpose. If you use this functionality with cameras that can record in the so-called LOG format, the processing of each individual scene is generally mandatory. LUTs (look-up tables, comparable to tables for certain corrections of certain color values) make it easier here. There are a variety of free and paid LUTs or LUT packages available for purchase where professionals have already taken on this work. For example, you want to create a cinematic-looking image with dramatic contrasts? No problem. With a suitable LUT, this can be done in a few clicks. Look up tables are often a good starting point for further changes. So, you can weaken the strength of the LUT effect using the transparency slider and of course make your own additional color and image corrections by combining them in the effect stack. So, you don't have to completely rely on the prefabricated optics of a LUT. Bogart 12 provides 20 of its own LUTs for this.
22. NEW: For the Bogart Titler, Vertigo Titler and Titel-Studio, 30 belly band templates are supplied as 'page' archives. Depending on the project format and text length, adjustments to the font size may be necessary.
23. NEW: The 'Standard' font extends the title with a very clear and professional video font.
24. NEW: In audio recording, editing, the current project name and the project format are displayed at the top left.
25. NEW: In the audio dubbing, a double click on the selected StoryboardPLUS scene is sufficient to display its original sound in full width. This increases orientation, handling, and the convenience of dubbing with StoryboardPLUS considerably.
26. NEW: In the dubbing, you can now jump directly to the respective effect by clicking on the red / green / blue bars in the StoryboardPLUS timeline.
27. In audio dubbing, correct audio calculation is made possible after an entire track has been muted or unmuted.
28. In the dubbing / 'Insert / replace audio track' tab, the counter runs correctly again when individual pieces of music are played back.
29. NEW: The main menu now shows the name of the current hard disk, the project environment used, the project name and the format at the top right.
30. Tip: Arabesk 4 and 5 versions cannot be used, so update to Arabesk 6 for only $39.
31. Important note for users with several Bogart systems: Projects that have been processed from BogartSE 10 can only be processed to a limited extent by the older versions! Inserting titles in such projects is not possible with Bogart v5-v9, for example. Users who work on projects on multiple devices with Store'n'Share should install the identical software everywhere!
