Reflecting on the Innovators in AYA Cancer Symposium
|
Last month, the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center welcomed nearly 150 people to campus for the "Innovators in AYA Cancer: Driving Science and Policy toward a Brighter Future for Teens and Young Adults with Cancer" symposium.
Throughout this day and a half event, research findings and scientific discoveries were punctuated by candid and emotional stories from patients, caregivers and advocates, all with the message that we need to continue to devote our time to better understand the underlying biology of AYA cancers, develop more effective treatments and address stagnant survival outcomes.

Commentary: NCI-Sponsored Clinical Trials are Clinically Meaningful and Cost-Effective
|
SWOG, ECOG, Alliance, NRG, COG, and NCTN. What does this alphabet soup mean for advancing care for patients? Some view the cooperative groups as a mechanism by which studies, that the pharmaceutical industry will undertake, get done. A few even go as far as describe them as the place to conduct a negative study implying that every effort will lead to a null result. When I hear this, it makes me think of Mike Polk Jr’s characterization of First Energy Stadium as a “Factory of Sadness” resulting in perpetual negativity for diehard Browns fans. But is that really true? Are the US cooperative groups really a factory of clinical trial sadness?

Proposals Accepted on a Rolling Basis
The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (Case CCC) will provide support to research teams that plan to submit large multi-investigator grant applications (usually non-R support mechanisms). For research teams that have an established track record of collaborative research, pilot project funding is available to support key research initiatives that are deemed necessary to generate competitive multi-investigator proposals. Requests for support are competitive and decisions regarding funding will require the research team to demonstrate the active engagement of team members in the proposed project, clearly articulate the significance and innovation of the project, and provide a roadmap for acquisition of external funding.
This RFA is open to all Case CCC members.
