The NAI Fellows Program highlights academic inventors who have demonstrated a spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a significant impact on quality of life, spawned economic development and advanced societal welfare. Election to the program is the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.

The 61st Annual American Society of Hematology (ASH) Meeting and Exposition will take place December 7-10, 2019 in Orlando, FL. SABCS 2019: Highlights from the Case CCC

The 2019 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium will take place December 10-14. Drawing an international audience of academic and private physicians and researchers, the symposium is designed to provide state-of-the-art information on the experimental biology, etiology, prevention, diagnosis and therapy of breast cancer and premalignant breast disease. The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (Case CCC) has compiled a list of spotlight sessions and posters featuring Cleveland-based institutions including Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University. Our Cancer Center Seminar Series resumes today with
Mahmoud Ghannoum, PhD presenting, "Bacteriome-Mycobiome Interactions: Impact on Health and Disease."
Dr. Ghannoum is professor of dermatology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine and a member of the Case CCC's Hematopoietic and Immune Cancer Biology Program. Presently, he is Director of the CWRU/University Hospitals Center for Medical Mycology. In that capacity, he established a multidisciplinary Center of Excellence that combines basic and translational research investigating medically important fungi from the test tube to the bedside. More recently, he pioneered studies on the fungal communities residing in our body and coined the term ‘Mycobiome”.

Paul Lambert, PhD, the Howard M. Temin Professor and Chair of Oncology and Director of the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
On behalf of the Case CCC's Molecular Oncology Program, Dr. Lambert will present, "A New Mouse Model for Studying the Pathogenesis of Human Papillomaviruses" at noon in the Wolstein Research Building Auditorium on Friday, December 13.
Our series will return for the remainder of the academic year on Friday, January 10, 2020.

Miss Evers’ Boys, a movie based on the true story of the US Public Health Service Untreated Syphilis Study conducted at Tuskegee from 1932 until 1972. Following the movie, our special guest, Dr. David Hodge, Associate Professor, National Center of Bioethics in Research and Health Care at Tuskegee University, will join CWRU panelists to discuss the ethical issues with the study.

- the possibility of funding as a full Project in the next year of the P20 Disparities SPORE;
- opportunities for start-up support from the Disparities SPORE pilot project program commencing September 2020;
- opportunities for inclusion as a full project proposed in the SPORE competing renewal proposal that will be submitted in September 2020.
All proposals must be directed toward translational research focused on mechanisms involving a cancer disparity. At least one specific aim must involve direct study of patients or of consented human tissues as defined in
RFA PAR-14-353.
Proposal Guidelines
Proposals should conform to the following guidelines:
- Proposed specific aims (1 page)
- Background/preliminary data (1 page)
- NIH Biosketch(es) of project leader(s)
Proposals of interest will be invited to submit a more complete application for review by the SPORE advisory boards.
