Introducing New Assistant Coach Elizabeth Hauptman

Name: Elisabeth Hauptman

Team You Coach: Novice Girls and Boys

How long have you been rowing: 8 years

What side/ seat do you prefer: Slight preference for Port, but can row both sides

Favorite post-workout snack: Breakfast cereals with fresh fruits (rowing at 5:30 in the morning!)

Teams you rowed for: Carnegie Lake Rowing Association

What made you decide to become a coach: I like to share my love for the sport

The most rewarding aspect of coaching: Seeing improvements taking place

A favorite moment while coaching at Mercer: Watching the finely tuned orchestra of boats coming in and out. Every rower/ coxswain knows what they have to do. It's just amazing seeing the level of activity at 4:00 pm. Somehow it works. I am in awe!

What does rowing mean to you?:  I appreciate the opportunity rowing has given me to improve my physical and mental fitness.

Biggest achievements in rowing: Having a great race at the HOCR in 2019

How has rowing impacted your life: I enjoy the social interaction and supporting community that rowing provides. I have made many new friends!

Recap from the Neczypor Regatta

The Mercer Junior team had a very successful day of racing at the 2023 Neczypor Regatta in Camden, NJ, on April 9. The Mercer Boys won the MV8+, LMV8+, MJV4+, and LM4+ events, and the team took the silver medal in the WV8+, WV4+ MN8+, MJV8+, and MV4+, and third in W1V2x events.

Read below for race recaps from two Varsity rowers.

Senior Co-Captain Sarah Kaputa:

Neczypor was a great weekend for the Varsity girls! The varsity eight followed our race plan very well and successfully made moves, and kept going for more throughout the race. We went out hard and, as a whole, thought that it was a strong start, and we can’t wait to build up our speed, technique, and boat feel (and win races)! As a whole, we really saw the team rise to the competition and give every race their all. All of our boats were super successful, and got some medals as well as a great race experience! Everyone should be super proud of themselves and use this momentum to get hungry for more!! MVGDIB!

Sophomore Nico Franceschi:

Even with tough competition from other crews, everyone brought the focus and intensity to their boats that secured multiple first place finishes and helped everyone medal. I hope we can continue to improve and bring that same energy to all our races and practices so we can remain competitive with even the top crews in the nation.
