Saratoga Sprints and Cooper Cup Recaps

Race Recap of Saratoga Invite by Mercer Varsity Girl's Varsity 4+: Carolyn Darcy
After our first race in the four, all of us were super excited but nervous to race in a 1V4+ final. As soon as we got to the line there was a new rush of excitement and readiness. The announcer called a quick start and the flag went down earlier than expected with our boat not having a correct point. We had the worst start out of all the boats putting us in dead last. I don’t remember ever settling during the race
and around 500 meters in was where we really kicked it up and started to go! We walked on 8 boats making us first place in the end! I was screaming for us to walk, and Anika was screaming. It really was an exciting race. My favorite part had to be the last 150 meters when we passed the boat directly next to us after being even the majority of the race. No one wanted the win more than we did

Race Recap of Cooper Cup By Mercer Novice Boy's Cox: Grace Nghiem
It was a beautiful spring day at the Camden Boathouse for the Copper Cup Regatta. All of our boys' novice boats had great showings, including WINS for the Boys 8+ in the second flight and Boys 4+, and exciting finishes in all heats. The cheers and the support from our coaches, teammates, and parents kept us going for the whole-day event. There was so much to be proud of as we realized that the hard work we’ve been putting in all season is definitely starting to pay off. We are all eager to get back to Mercer to make necessary adjustments and more improvements, and so excited to compete in more regattas and prepare for more WINS!

Adult Summer Programs
We are excited to announce our Summer Rowing programs for adults.

Rowing in the Barge is a fun, low-key way to get out on the water to enjoy Mercer Lake and get a bit of exercise! All sessions will have an experienced coach on board the ‘rowing barge’ and classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 with the first class on Tuesday, May 24. There is a FREE tryout session on Tuesday, May 17, or Thursday, May 19 for those who want to test it out beforehand.

Adult Learn to Row is a program offered in two 4 week sessions. This is geared toward adults who are interested in learning how to row on the water in a rowing shell. Sessions will meet three times a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in the evening from 5:45 to 7:15 starting the week of June 20.

We are pleased to offer the Adult Summer Rowing League for those who want to be part of a team and row in an 8 person shell. This is a great opportunity for companies to sponsor a fun outdoor experience with co-workers. It’s also available to individuals who want to learn to row and meet new people. This program will meet once or twice a week (you choose) and you have the option to create your own team of 8 to 10 people or be placed on a team. All teams will have an experienced coach and coxswain assigned to them.

National Learn to Row Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 18. This is a FREE one-day event open to the community, ages 11 and older. Sign up for a 90-minute session that will cover the basics and get you taking strokes out on the water!

Private lessons are available pending water/weather and coach availability. Contact Hilary Gehman to learn more.
