Last month at the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference (WHDC), Kate Watters, Executive Director of Crude Accountability, delivered interventions during the plenary sessions on the Rule of Law I and Rule of Law II.

Watters addressed the rise of enforced disappearances in the United States, by Customs and Border Control, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

She also raised the case of our friend and colleague Dr. Gubad Ibadoghlu, who is held under house arrest in Baku, and the prosecution of his brother, Galib Bayramov.

⚖️ On 7 October, Crude Accountability hosted a side event on incommunicado detention and enforced disappearances in the US at the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference.

🔍 We have been documenting cases of inhuman and degrading treatment, incommunicado detention, deportation, and enforced disappearances by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) since the Trump administration came to power in January 2025.

On 10 October, Crude Accountability and Freedom for Eurasia, also hosted a side event on corruption and kleptocratic practices in Central Asia at the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference.

Kate Watters spoke about Western enablers in big oil, which fuel kleptocratic regimes in Central Asia and their impact on the environment, climate activists, and civil society in the region.

The panel included Thomas Mayne (Freedom for Eurasia), Leila Nazgül Seiitbek (Freedom for Eurasia), and Oliver Bullough (Journalist), and moderated by Sébastien Peyrouse (Central Asia Program, George Washington University).
