🚨 It has been 7 months into Trump’s presidency, and his administration has carried out unprecedented attacks on our government, our Constitution, and our way of life.

Our latest paper addresses the Trump administration’s attack on civil society and human rights in the US.

Kate Watters, Executive Director of Crude Accountability, and Coordinator of the Civic Solidarity Platform’s Working Group on 🌎 Climate Justice, documents the Trump administration’s possible violations of the OSCE Decalogue, and various human dimension commitments.

This report was produced in the framework of the Helsinki+50 Reflection Process project, implemented by the Civic Solidarity Platform, marking the OSCE’s 50th Anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act.

August 30th marked the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances.

Since 2013, Crude Accountability, as a founding member of the Prove They Are Alive! campaign, has worked to uncover the truth about the fate of at least 162 individuals who have been forcibly disappeared by the authoritarian and oppressive government of Turkmenistan since the early 2000s.

This year, we are also alarmed by events closer to home. 🇺🇸

The media have covered the enforced disappearances of over 200 Venezuelans by the Trump administration earlier this year, but there are many other incidents of enforced disappearances by the US government, including of women and children. The Trump administration has disappeared people in El Salvador, Guantanamo Bay, and at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol facilities in the United States.

According to Danielle Harlow’s United States Disappeared Tracker, 3,955 people have been disappeared since January 2025.

Crude Accountability stands in solidarity with the victims of enforced disappearance and their families in their struggle for truth and justice in the US and around the world.

On Thursday, September 4, the U.S. Helsinki Commission will hold a briefing on the Impact on Central Asia of Russia’s War on Ukraine.

Kate Watters will speak on the state of civil society, and climate NGOs and environmental activists within the context of the oil industry in Central Asia.
