Cast Off The Anchors!!! 9/10/23

Acts 27:39-44 (KJV)

³⁹  And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.

⁴⁰  And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

⁴¹  And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.

⁴²  And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and escape.

⁴³  But the centurion, willing to save Paul, kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, and get to land:

⁴⁴  And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.

CAST OFF THE ANCHORS!!!!

LOOSE THE RUDDER BANDS!!!

HOIST UP THE MAINSAIL TO THE WIND (HOLY SPIRIT!!!!”

I did't think I would be able to preach a message today-9/10/23!!!

My beautiful bride and I celebrated our 50^th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY last night and I write this message drinking my FIRST cup of Starbucks coffee in an uncomfortable hotel chair.

I did NOT sleep well last night! I recently was diagnosed with a VERY PAINFUL tear of my meniscus (knee) and tossed and turned all night-it is now 7:40 AM and my bride sleeps on...................

I took my own advice last night!! I jokingly advise all wedding couples I an honored to marry of one, no two, critical facts-

1. The bride is in TOTAL control and the groom AND his family MUST keep their traps (mouths) shut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
2. The ONLY function of the groom, and again I speak in half-jest.............

The ONLY job of the groom is to at least SHOW UP halfway sober!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I allowed my darling wife any and all decisions on who to invite and where and how to celebrate!! I quickly learned that no suggestions I had attempted WERE not received!!!!

Back to today's sermon!!!

The Apostle Paul was a prisoner of Rome en-route to his DIVINE APPOINTMENT when the ship he was traveling on was beset by a horrific storm!!

Paul's life, as well as all others on board was at stake-

³⁷  And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.

The DIVINE solution given to Paul, which he shared with the captain of the ship, was very simply to:

⁴⁰  And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore.

God had already prepared a “WAY OF ESCAPE” for all of them!!!

“AND WHEN IT WAS DAY...........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“THEY DISCOVERED A CERTAIN CREEK WITH A SHORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Then, and ONLY then did they CAST OFF THE ANCHORS AND UNFURL THE SAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beloved, sometimes in THIS life-when one finds themselves in hopeless storms-the BEST and ONLY thing one can do is CAST OFF THE ANCHORS AND UNFURL THE SAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET GO AND LET GOD-TURN IT OVER TO JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AMEN AND AMEN!!!
