CDI Staff Spotlight

CDI Spotlights: The Small, but Mighty CDI Team!

Front Row: Jocelyne Clancy, Sarah Cain, Deena Beckius, J'La Berry, Latrice Faulkner, Molly Dwyer-White.

Back Row: Chris Clay, Dr. Martin Myers, Ericka Hudson-Thomas. Not pictured: Amanda McGuire.

As we prepared this year’s Caswell Diabetes Institute Annual Report, we were reminded that the achievements highlighted throughout its pages are driven by more than what is visible on the surface. Behind every milestone is a small but extraordinary team of CDI staff whose dedication, creativity, and care help move our mission every day.

CDI’s mission—to support rigorous science and integrate it into patient- and family-centered care to prevent, treat, and ultimately cure diabetes and its complications—relies on the talent and dedication of staff across every part of the institute. Whether supporting investigators and clinical teams or coordinating enrichment programs, events, pilot initiatives, and community engagement efforts, our staff provides the structure, energy, and expertise needed to move our mission forward.

This year’s many successes reflect not only the excellence of our faculty, trainees, clinicians, and partners, but also the commitment of the team working behind the scenes to bring ideas to life, engage with patients and families, help communicate your successes with the broader community, build connections, and sustain the momentum of CDI’s work.

To our CDI staff: Deena Beckius, J’la Berry, Sarah Cain, Jocelyne Clancy, Chris Clay, Molly Dwyer-White, Latrice Faulkner, Ericka Hudson-Thomas, and Amanda McGuire - thank you for your incredible work, your professionalism, and your unwavering commitment to the Institute’s mission. We are deeply grateful for all that you do. Go Blue!

U-M Team Steps Up for Breakthrough T1D Walk

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, U-M team members gathered at Rolling Hills County Park for the Breakthrough T1D Walk, braving a chilly morning in support of a meaningful cause. With sponsorship support from Michigan Medicine and the Caswell Diabetes Institute, the U-M team raised more than $5,000 to advance type 1 diabetes research, advocacy, improved care, and efforts toward finding a cure.

The event brought together community members, families, clinicians, researchers, and supporters united by a shared commitment to improving the lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes. CDI was proud to support and participate in the walk, reflecting its ongoing mission to accelerate discovery and translate research into better treatments and outcomes for patients.

Thank you to all who walked, donated, and cheered on the team. Together, we are helping move the field closer to a future without type 1 diabetes.
