On June 7, 2025, the Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI) team hit the road at Domino's Farms to participate in the ADA 2025 Tour de Cure. Thanks to our passionate cyclists and committed supporters, the CDI team raised an impressive $6,985 for diabetes research, education, and advancement, exceeding our goal for the year!
This annual event is a perfect way to combine personal passion with collective purpose. Every pedal stroke represented Michigan Medicine's commitment to fighting diabetes and supporting those navigating this journey.

Brehm Concordia Scholar, Becca Davidson, PhD, Wins Inaugural Award
Congratulations to Dr. Becca Davidson on being awarded the first-ever Concordia Collaborative Project Grant for their project, "Characterizing Immune Infiltration Effects on the Islet Microenvironment".
Dr. Davidson is a Brehm-Concordia Scholar, part of a select group of early-career diabetes scientists from three of the top diabetes centers in the nation: The Brehm Center, the Naomi Berry Diabetes Center, and the Barbara Davis Diabetes Center. Together, these scholars collaborate to foster innovation and advance diabetes research.

The session featured heartfelt testimonies from members of the Children's Congress who live with type 1 diabetes, as well as Katie Bone, the USA Climbing Speed National Champion, and expert insights from Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Dr. Michele Heisler Receives New Internal Medicine Professorship
Congratulations to Michelle Heisler, MD, MPA, CDI faculty member, professor of internal medicine, and professor of health behavior and health equity at the U-M School of Public Health, who was honored with the Kutsche Memorial Research Professorship of Internal Medicine.
The professorship, established in memory of John T. Kutshe, MD, and Estelle K. Kutsche, supports a faculty member within the Division of General Medicine for up to five years.

Michigan Medicine Achieves GC eQUIPS Top Performer Designation Led by Drs. Lynn Ang and Nazanene Esfandiari
A huge congratulations goes out to Drs. Lynn Ang, Nazanene Esfandiari, and their team! Thanks to their leadership, Michigan Medicine earned Top Performer status in the Society of Hospital Medicine's (SHM) GC eQUIPS Fall 2025 benchmarking report. This biannual report evaluates point-of-care data from 80 participating hospitals, highlighting our outstanding quality and performance in hospital medicine.
