In tune with the special high production needs of pipeliners, these durable and dependable machines have been the standard for the pipeline industry for decades.

PLM is pleased to introduce you to some improvements made to the Cat PL72, PL83, and PL87 pipelayers based on your responses. The changes impact the lift system, operator environment, Cat Product Link™, track system, and a few others. These updates will enhance overall performance, maintenance, safety, and comfort of the Pipelayer line-up. The improvements will now be part of changes made to the machine from the factory or can be added to existing machines by contacting PLM.

The following are just a few of the improvements for the pipelayers listed.

Block Holder

Cat PL72, PL83, PL87

A standard load line block holder has been added to improve rope life. This addresses the challenge of storing the block so that it doesn’t crimp the cable. The new block holder is easy to access and bonus – we hear it’s a great place to put your cooler with the machine is assembled!

Boom Lifting Eyes

Cat PL72, PL83, PL87

The addition of boom lifting eyes improves handling and maneuverability during boom installation and removal for improved safety. This has become standard on all machines to create safe and efficient lifting points.

New Boom Length

Cat PL83, PL87

The addition of the 6.1m (20ft) Boom option to the PL83 and PL87 is to improve safety on steep slopes and in residential applications.

Counterweight Rod Holder

PL72, PL83, PL87

This attachment provides storage for the counterweight rods during transportation. This improves safety when the counterweights are removed for transport.

Additional improvements include an updated Cat Product Link™ system, heated vinyl seat option for those cold winter conditions, counterweight kickout switch relocation, and a new charge filter base that keeps hydraulic fluid contained during maintenance.
