Welcome Back Bobcat Nation Families!
I realize that the 2020-2021 school year looks vastly different than we envisioned it to be, however I hope that you and your family are still excited to be a part of this amazing Bobcat Nation community.
Our 20-21 school year is underway, and students and staff are already working hard. Along with our strong academic offerings: athletics, fine arts, and clubs are beginning their preparations for the upcoming school year. 
I would like to introduce some of our staff in order to offer assistance to you and your child for the 20/21 school year.

Important Information from the Student Achievement Office:
Senior Exit Project

SEP (Senior Exit Project) is a governing board approved, Vail School District, requirement for all Seniors who are preparing to graduate. This year the Senior Exit Project will look a bit different. The paper on the critical issue will still have the same requirements, which students will learn about in their Senior English course. The other components will be further detailed and sent to you no later than August 21st. ACT for Seniors ONLY

Due to the school closures, in the Spring of 2020, we were unable to administer the ACT test to the class of 2021. We have scheduled an ACT testing date for Cienega Seniors on October 6th. We will enroll all of our current Seniors for this test, so there is no need for you to register. If you have any questions please contact Mikel Greene at or Mrs. Scott at

ACT Prep at Cienega
For juniors and seniors, it's time to start preparing to take the ACT test. It is recommended that you and your child log onto the websites of College/Universities of interest to see the desired ACT score. Once you have that in mind, find a date and location that works best for your child and sign up soon! We will be offering a test for Seniors on October 6th and for Juniors in the Spring of 2021, at no cost, however if you're looking for multiple opportunities, check out the dates listed on the flyer below.
We offer ACT Prep courses here at Cienega to help your child prepare! For only $40, your child can attend three prep courses and receive the materials to. Students can email Mrs. Scott at to register and make their payment in the bookstore, where you will also pick up your materials. See the attached flyer for more details.

The SAT will be hosted at Cienega on October 3rd. You may register by visiting by September 4th. The cost is $52. If you are unable to attend the October 3rd date, there are multiple testing dates available in the Tucson area.

ZAPS Prep courses have been coming to Cienega for years – and now they are hosting test prep online! During a 5 hour seminar students receive tips for the multiple choice tests, strategies on how to approach questions, and a method to improve their essay score. To make participation easy, the online seminars are offered at least six days a week with multiple time slots available. Free Tutoring!!

Attached below you will find the schedule for Free Tutoring that we have available this semester. In this document you will find times and teachers that are available for Math and English tutoring. During Remote Learning, the teachers will be available through Schoology Conferences, in the Cienega Tutoring Schoology Course, during their scheduled tutoring time. We didn't get the chance to share this wonderful news last year, so we wanted to make sure to recognize our NJROTC for their achievements...

Cienega's NJROTC program was awarded “Distinguished Unit” from NJROTC Headquarters for academic year 2019-2020. This is the highest award given to NJROTC units nationally.

Cadet Joy Ojala was awarded a University of Arizona Presidential Navy ROTC Preparatory Scholarship and an Arizona State University Navy ROTC Preparatory Scholarship. Cadet Aaron Wheeler was awarded a Navy ROTC Scholarship to the University of New Mexico. Cadet Wheeler served as the unit’s Cadet Commanding Officer. Cadet Quintin Sherrod was awarded an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School at West Point. 

NJROTC Spring Break Trip

The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) hosted 28 NJROTC Cadets on Camp Pendleton CA 9-12 March 2020. The cadets had the opportunity to learn about USMC Amphibious Assault Vehicles and get a personalized tour of the base Armed Mechanized Museum. The cadets also enjoyed the base beach and a visit to Knott’s Berry Farm Amusement Park in Buena Park, CA.

Meal Program Changes
Starting Monday,
August 17th

Dear Parents,

On Monday, August 17th, our Curbside Meal Service will be changing. Meal distribution will be located at four sites throughout the district with service on Monday and Wednesday only. We have added both an AM and a PM pick-up time to accommodate our busy families on those two days. Each distribution day will include a multi-day meal pack. Monday’s distribution will include meals for Monday and Tuesday, and Wednesday’s distribution will include meals for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please see the information below for additional details.
