Weekly Seafood Market Update:

FINFISH:

  • Copper River King Salmon catches were low during the first opener on Mon 5/15. Sockeye prices came down a little on Thursday's opening.
  • Atlantic Salmon pricing is stable and all markets have gone unchanged.
  • Tuna prices came down towards the end of last week. Availability is strong this week.
  • Swordfish- the new moon means improved availability. The fisherman are expected to arrive by the end of this week and prices are expected to remain stable through next week.
  • Mahi prices are stable and availability has been good despite the boats switching to sword.
  • Wild Striped Bass supplies are good. NY opened its fishery and MD opens June 1st.
  • Black bass is currently available, but the weather is not looking good which may tighten supply as we head into the weekend.
  • Halibut prices dropped at the end of last week.
  • Grouper prices came down towards the end of last week. Very limited availability currently for the weekend.
  • Iceland supplies are limited due to terrible winds and rain. The weather is supposed to improve this weekend.
  • Monkfish prices are up and rising due to weather.
  • Flounder market continues to remain high.

SHELLFISH:

  • Live lobster prices have continued to inch down and stabilized where they currently reside. Catch volumes remain consistent.
  • U10 Scallop prices came down last week. Dayboat U10 scallops have continued to be available. Exceptional product. Packed in 10# tubs
  • Softshell production has slowed down signaling the end of the first round of shedding. Supply is tight. When this occurs it sometimes takes a week or more for the next round to start. Often when it begins again certain sizes are difficult to get. Sometimes it’s the larger JBO and sometimes it’s the smaller sizes.
  • Canned Crab Meat prices went up last week on all sizes. Prices will continue to rise due to poor landings and high demand.

Updates from Catanese Classic Meats:

Market Update:

  • Overall the Ground Beef market has been up and may be nearing its season price peak. We hope to see the market price decline after Memorial Day.
  • Choice and Select Strip pricing has been fluctuating over the past week. Overall, we expect the Strip Loin market to continue to see steady increases through summer, and then drop as summer comes to an end.
  • Tenderloins have dropped over the last few weeks, and may continue to as the market attempts to correct the continued price peaks over the last several months.
  • We expect the Ribeye market to continue to be somewhat choppy in the short term.
  • Pork loins market supply is slowly declining, while demand is increasing. Prices will rise.
  • The Rib market increased over the past couple of weeks and will continue due to the season, but note that market supply is good, especially on frozen products.
  • The Pork belly market is at a good value and are currently below the five year avg.
