Weekly Seafood Market Update: | |
- Very little Grouper for the week and prices are up. We also have limited snapper in house.
- Halibut pricing has been fluctuating quite a bit over the last few weeks due to weather. Currently prices are up however heavier landings are expected over the next week which should bring the prices down.
- Wild Striped Bass availability has been great, especially coming out of Massachusetts.
- Black Bass fishing has been slow.
- Mahi prices are coming down. Declining demand has forced prices to drop.
- Tuna prices are strong. Over the last couple of weeks, boats were tied at the docks due to weather. Boats are back out and very few have landed thus far creating a supply issue.
- Pricing remains good on Swordfish and supply is available.
- There has been no real change in both the Wild and Farmed Salmon market.
- Icelandic fishing has been great on both cod and haddock.
- Most rain closure areas will be open by this week except for Connecticut parts of New Jersey. (This could affect the weeklong availability of bluepoints.) The general consensus is wild clams should resume rolling in by the end of the week. Until then we will have mostly Top Necks and Farmed MN. Please know that prices are very high (record level) and availability is limited.
- Fresh crabmeat from both Maryland and North Carolina continues to be limited this week so expect prices to be up. Hopefully supply will increase as September usually starts higher volume in the industry. Pasteurized crabmeat from Indonesia seems to be arriving in higher quantities, however still limited at this time. Limited quantities and/ or high prices remain for China, Mexico and Columbia product. (Same story.... shipping delays.)
- The market remains strong on live lobsters.
