This week I was in glad to be back in CA-39, working hard for you. Here are the highlights:
Our Southern California communities are reeling from the impacts of backlogged ships at LA and Long Beach ports, from supply chain shortages driving up inflation to the recent oil spill that may have been caused by a ship anchor.

I am pleased that the Biden administration acknowledges and is taking action to address the preventable economic and public safety crises caused in part by backlogged ports. I have been working since January to safely reopen our ports and address supply chain backlogs, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress and federal, state and local officials to support pro-growth policies that help our economic recovery and protect the public health and safety of local communities.
The 45th annual City of Walnut Family Festival was a success! I enjoyed catching up with the Chinese American Association of Walnut (CAAW), Taiwanese calligrapher Grace Chu, our Walnut Valley Unified School District Assistant Superintendent of HR Diane Perez, Public Information Specialist Kelli Gille, Councilwomen Nancy Tragarz and Linda Freedman, and more members of our Walnut community as we enjoyed music from Cold Duck Band.
The future is bright for these Buena Park students! I was glad to help celebrate their achievements at the Buena Park Goes to College event and can’t wait to see what the future holds for our young leaders. I'm grateful to Beth Swift, city staff and partners for their work on this event and proud to fight to expand opportunities for students in Congress.
Congratulations to all of the amazing winners of the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce 2021 Business Awards! I was honored to be part of the evening and catch up with business owners and officials supporting our community and making Chino Hills a better place.

This year's winners include:
  • Chino Business of the Year : Transtech Engineers, Inc.

I enjoyed highlighting outstanding members of the Hispanic Community and their incredible contributions to CA-39 during Hispanic Heritage Month. Be sure to follow me on Facebook to see their stories.
A big thank you to the La Habra Host Lions Club and partnering organizations that made the La Habra Corn Festival happen! It is always great to see our community come together to enjoy good food and fun.
For 40 years, our Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Orange County has been an important voice for local Taiwanese American businesses and has helped our small business community, including donating masks and PPE during COVID-19. It was a pleasure to celebrate their 40th anniversary, thank outgoing President Dr. Paul Sheen and congratulate incoming President Paul Yang.

I also joined our Taiwanese community in CA-39 last weekend to honor Taiwan's 110th National day. I will continue to do my part to strengthen our U.S.-Taiwan relationship and support Taiwan's inclusion in international organizations such as the WHO and WHA.
The recent IRS proposal requiring financial institutions to report any transaction over $600 intrudes in the privacy of Americans and prevents small financial institutions from providing access to credit to communities and small businesses in need.

I joined Congressman Tom Emmer and colleagues in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Ways and Means Committee Chair Richard Neal, Department of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig to to express my concerns.
Save the date! My team is hosting a Grants Seminar on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 4pm PDT to give our CA-39 community the opportunity to hear from the experts at Grants.Gov and Townsend Public Affairs on navigating the grant application process.
On a personal note, Charles and I are delighted to welcome our first grand-baby girl to the Kim family. Both mom and baby are healthy and happy- we are over the moon with joy!
I am thrilled to be able to expand our team’s presence in California’s 39th District by opening a second district office in Diamond Bar with team members that can assist constituents in English, Korean and Mandarin.

In my first ten months in Congress, my team has assisted more than 2,000 constituents with casework requests and has provided written responses to 32,230 inquiries. Constituents are invited to call the office, submit a request online or visit during office hours to receive assistance or share a concern.
I am committed to helping California's 39th District get through the COVID-19 pandemic better than before. As we reopen our communities and get people safely back to work, I will do all that I can to make sure my constituents receive the relief you deserve.
Casework & Catch Up
