It has been a spring and summer full of achievements and transitions. Foremost, it was a privilege to share in the accomplishments of our students at the May award ceremonies and commencement, and a reminder of how well Pace prepares our graduates for their careers and to better the world. Many, many congratulations!
For our returning students in Pleasantville, we are excited that grant-supported expansions and improvements are occurring this summer in our simulation labs. We are also working on the New York City Communication and Speech Disorders clinic this summer and NYC Center for Excellence in Healthcare Simulation expansion next year.
We are all adjusting to an endemic phase of COVID. I just returned from a vacation in South Korea, where I observed 100% of the people masking indoors in public settings and on a Korean Air flight airplane. Here in the United States, as we know, we have a different balance of individual preferences and public health. Please know Pace University is carefully following all CDC, state, and local guidance with updates as needed, based on local case rates and variant evolution. We will remain "mask friendly" for all.
The outbreak of Simian pox (aka Monkeypox) in NYC and the lack of vaccine appointment availability for
at-risk populations, shows us yet again that the world, our nation, state, and city lacks a robust and coordinated public health infrastructure. Pace is doing all we can within these constraints. The University and University Health Care continue to monitor developments.
I'd like to welcome Joanne Singleton to her role as Associate Dean, Interim, for the Lienhard School of Nursing as we undertake a national search. As a University we are preparing to say a fond farewell Provost Quiñones, who will assume a presidency in California. We have many new faculty and staff joining, new and continuing students throughout the year, and I hope the balance of the summer is a good one for all!

Dean, College of Health Professions
