Tanglewood Music Festival Keith Lockhart 30th anniversary concert Get ready to experience an unforgettable evening as we celebrate the incredible 30th anniversary of the one and only Keith Lockhart, the maestro behind the Boston Pops! This week, Tanglewood is hosting a spectacular concert in his honor, and you’re invited to join the festivities. With a remarkable 2,250 performances, 45 national tours, and five international tours under his baton, Lockhart has left an indelible mark on the music scene. Did you know he’s also graced 80 television shows, including the iconic Super Bowl XXXVI? His annual 4th of July concert from the Esplanade in Boston, complete with breathtaking fireworks, is a highlight for millions, drawing crowds of 500,000 eager fans. Lockhart's work with the Pops has included concerts with performances by many special guests, some of whom will be on hand Friday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. to help celebrate. They include Lynn Ahrens, Jason Danieley, Ben Folds, Mandy Gonzalez, Bernadette Peters, Guster's Ryan Miller, John Pizzarelli, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Time for Three. Eric Henry Sanders’s Play With Time, a music-theater piece featuring the music of minimalist composer Philip Glassand reconfiguring a conversation between Philip Glass and the visual artist Fredericka Foster, will be performed at the Linde Center on Saturday, August 23, at 2pm, and Sunday, August 24, at 7pm. |Stockbridge/Lenox
The Mount Edith Wharton's Home Legendary folk-pop singer Judy Collins is in conversation with André Bernard, on Thursday, August 21, at 5pm, to discuss her extraordinary musical career and her shift toward writing, as evidenced by her latest book, Sometimes It’s Heaven: Poems of Love, Loss, and Redemption. Ghost Tour of the Mount (August 22 & 29, 8:30pm) On August 25, 4pm & 26, 11am, Summer Author Series | Elyse Graham, Book and Dagger: How Scholars and Librarians Became the Unlikely Spies. Join us on August 27, 5:30-6:30 to experience the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Carl Phillips, who will read from his latest poetry collection, Scattered Snows, to the North (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2024), a collection about distortion and revelation, about knowing and the unreliability of a knowing that’s based on human memory. This reading is presented by the Amy Clampitt Fund, a Fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, that seeks to advance poetry and the literary arts. Poet Ama Codjoe will provide an introduction. Berkshire Botanical Garden BBG Weekly Farmers Market, Mondays, Free (3-6pm), Music Mondays: Rounders Revival (August 25, 5:30-7:30pm), Wanda Houston Band (September 1, 5:30-7:30pm) Berkshire Woodworkers Guild Fine Woodworks Show and Silent Auction (August 30-31) A fine woodwork show and sale featuring designs by 32 professional woodworkers from the Berkshires and neighboring counties in New York and Connecticut. Bidwell House Museum August 23rd, 11am-12pm is their last history talk of the 2025 season with Dr. Amy Watson, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1745, New England colonists launched a successful expedition to conquer Louisbourg, a port in present-day Nova Scotia, which was then controlled by the French Empire. Reverend Adonijah Bidwell was witness to this battle as the Chaplain of the fleet and you can read about his experience in a series of Bidwell Lore posts from 2020. In this talk, Dr. Amy Watson will explain why New Englanders launched this invasion of a frigid Canadian port, why they were forced to return it, and what the Siege of Louisbourg can tell us about both British party politics and the origins of the American Revolution. Leture is held via Zoom. Private Garden Tour On Saturday, August 30 visit a rarely seen private garden in Monterey! If you’re a master gardener, plant-geek, or just enjoy the most fabulous colors, shapes, and form landscapes that you’ve ever seen, come join us on this rarely opened to the public botanical wonderland. Visitors can stop by anytime between 3-6 pm, enjoy a glass of Prosecco, stroll through the verdant gardens and chat with the owner/gardener about the many unusual plants he is able to grow around his home. This garden is located on a private road in Monterey not normally accessible to the public, so if you are a lover of plants, you won’t want to miss this opportunity! The location of this event will be given to ticket holders five days in advance. There will be a limited number of accessible parking spaces onsite, the remaining parking will be offsite and will require a pleasant, 1/2 mile walk to the garden.
