CalFresh Outreach Week

We’re excited to host a week of events on educating students about CalFresh and the application process to find out if they qualify for this benefit. What is CalFresh? CalFresh is a nutrition assistance program funded by the USDA that can help students buy the food they need to live healthy and active lifestyles. It may help stretch a tight food budget by allowing students to incorporate healthy foods like fruits and vegetables into their diet.

Dr. José Aguilar-Hernández will discuss 1990s Student of Color activism in higher education in California and beyond. Specifically, he charts the ways that students mobilized to improve the campus racial climate for Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x students by demanding the creation of cultural centers and Chicana/o/x Latina/o/x Studies. He argues that student activism has the potential to transform California universities to better meet the needs and demands of their students and communities.

Sci-Trek Volunteer Recruitment
SCI-TREK is in need of Student Volunteers for our outreach to local elementary schools. We are a service-learning Chemistry Program and looking for people willing to assist our Trained Student Teacher as they teach 2nd grade students a science experiment. The goal is to inspire young scientists and increase equity in our community.

Roles in the Cybersecurity Field

CompTIA's Chief Technology Evangelist, Dr. James Stanger will talk about the cybersecurity professional diaries: A day in the life: This webinar discusses the myriad job roles found in the world of “cybersecurity.” he will then discuss specific people in various roles, from SOC analyst to pen tester, to GRC/compliance specialist, to auditor, and so forth. Dr. Stanger will talk about working InfoSec professionals and what they do. We will have CISOs from Cal State Long Beach and CSU Chico.

Sycamore Canyon Campground
Outdoor Adventure (OA) trips are the perfect way to get off campus and disconnect from everyday distractions. Our student leaders will teach you the necessary outdoor skills and support you throughout the trip. Most overnight trips include cost of transportation, equipment, meals and any camping or park entrance fees. The OA program does offer partial and full scholarships to participants if needed. You can apply for a scholarship when registering for the trip you are interested in.

Student Programing Board (SPB)
Student Programming Board is in charge of some of the biggest student lead events on campus, from Night Markets that support local businesses to the annual end of year celebration, Dolphinpalooza!
SPB strives to provide an abundance of opportunities for all students to get involved through volunteer and paid student positions! Students who decide to join SPB attend general board meetings, get involved with the planning and organizing of events, work with local businesses and vendors, create decorations, assist in developing advertisements for events, and develop strong teamwork and project management skills.
