Facility Snow Clearing Contracts Awarded

Council received an update about the recent activities of the SDG Regional Waste Management Working Group.

The group is an opportunity for municipalities throughout the region to collaboratively communicate with upper levels of government to provide a voice for issues and concerns in rural eastern Ontario.

Highlights from the September 8th Meeting:

Voting Methods for 2026 Election

Planning is underway for the 2026 municipal election, set for October 26, 2026. Following past trends where over 80% of voters cast ballots online, South Glengarry plans to again use internet and telephone voting, with a Voter Help Centre available for those needing assistance.

Consolidated Rate of Speed By-law Under Consideration

The Township is considering the adoption of a consolidated speed rate by-law to replace outdated legacy by-laws and formally document current posted speed limits across the municipality. The final by-law will come back to Council for approval at a later date.

Additional Fire Protection Funds Anticipated

Fire Chief Robertson reported that additional funding through the Ontario Fire Protection Grant is anticipated for 2025-2026. The additional funding is proposed to go towards new bunker gear, fit-testing equipment, and tools to tackle lithium-ion battery fires - all aimed at enhancing firefighter safety and cancer prevention.
