Council Approves Next Steps for Restoration of

Museum Outbuilding

At the March 10th Council meeting, Council authorized the Glengarry Nor’Westers and Loyalist Museum Board of Directors to proceed with obtaining proposals for the restoration of the Museum’s outbuilding, located at 19651 John Street in Williamstown.

The Museum, which sits on Township-owned land, is designated as a heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act. As a result, any proposed alterations to structures on the property must follow a process prescribed by the Act to ensure the site’s historical integrity is maintained.

The proposed project will be fully funded by the Museum Board.

More Highlights from the March 10th Meeting:

New and Improved Play Structure Coming to Smithfield Park

Exciting news for the community of Lancaster! The Township has taken the next step towards the installation of a new play structure and pathway at Smithfield Park by awarding the contract to Playground Planners.

The Township secured funding through the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund for this project. The federal government is contributing $81,169.44 to the project, with the Township providing $20,292.36.

The new play area will be fully accessible and is designed for children aged 18 months to 12 years. It will feature engineered wood fibre surfacing, an inclusive play structure, an accessible ramp to elevated play components, a three-bay swing set, and a concrete pathway connecting MacDonald Street to the play area.

Council Discusses Clear Bag Diversion Initiative

Council received an information report and discussed the possibility of introducing a clear bag waste program in South Glengarry. A clear bag program would require residents to use transparent garbage bags instead of black, white, or green bags for curbside collection.

What’s Next?

Council has directed staff to proceed with gathering community input on this potential initiative.

Once community input has been collected, staff will bring another report back to Council to determine if the initiative will move forward.

This potential initiative supports provincial waste diversion goals and would help protect the future of our landfills. Residents are encouraged to take part in engagement efforts and share their thoughts - stay tuned for more information!
