Firm Partners, Michael E. Tolbert and Shelice R. Tolbert, recently attended the 2026 American Law Institute (ALI) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., joining some of the nation's most respected judges, attorneys, legal scholars, and policymakers.
Membership in the American Law Institute is among the legal profession's highest distinctions, recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and a commitment to improving the law.
During the conference, the Tolberts had the opportunity to hear remarks from United States Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Justice Jackson's appearance provided attendees with valuable insight into the role of the judiciary, the importance of public confidence in the courts, and the continuing evolution of American jurisprudence.
"It was an honor to hear Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson speak and to witness her thoughtful reflections on the judiciary and the rule of law," said Atty. Michael E. Tolbert. "Her remarks underscored the importance of integrity, public service, and ensuring that our legal system remains accessible and fair for all."
Atty. Shelice R. Tolbert described the experience as both inspiring and professionally enriching.
"Justice Jackson's perspective and leadership were remarkable," said Tolbert. "As attorneys, we have a responsibility not only to advocate for our clients but also to strengthen the legal institutions that serve our communities. Hearing directly from a sitting Supreme Court Justice was a memorable reminder of that responsibility."
The annual meeting also provided opportunities for collaboration and discussion among legal professionals from across the country on projects that influence the development of American law. Through their continued participation in the American Law Institute, Michael and Shelice Tolbert remain engaged in efforts to advance legal excellence and contribute to the future of the profession.
