Attorneys Tolbert Deliver Gripping

Presentation at TEDx Gary

Last weekend, the Tolberts made history by delivering their first-ever Ted Talk at TEDx Gary.

Held at Indiana University Northwest, their presentation addressed how the Black community and the world can potentially be transformed through the support of positive content creation.

"Did you know that Blacks consume more media content, per week, than any other US group?" asked Atty. Michael E. Tolbert. "Oftentimes, this content is designed to encourage relationship disruption in our communities resulting in 48% of Blacks never marrying and having a higher divorce rate than their counterparts leading to diminished economic power."

The Tolberts joined a host of community movers and shakers who delivered Ted talks on various topics.

"It was an incredible experience," recalls Atty. Shelice R. Tolbert. "We were able to present important information in an environment where it was well-received."

Recording of the talks was not permitted as the final edited version will be released at a later date. In the meantime, the Tolberts shared their sentiments about the experience here.

Attorney Shelice R. Tolbert Receives "Women Who Lead" Award from the YWCA of NWI

Earlier this month, the YWCA of NWI presented Atty. Shelice R. Tolbert with the "Women Who Lead" Award at their annual "Circle of Friends" Gala. The designation is bestowed upon business women in the community who exemplify effective leadership while making a positive impact.

Attorneys Tolbert Honored by the

Gary International Black Film Festival

Earlier this month, attorneys Michael and Shelice Tolbert were honored by the Gary International Black Film Festival.

The Community Impact Award is given to individuals who have made a significant difference in the city of Gary and the broader community through philanthropy, volunteerism and/or support.

"We never do what we do for recognition," said Atty. Michael E. Tolbert. "We give God the glory for every award, and we will continue to serve and give to a community that has poured so much into us."

Now in its 15th year, the Gary International Black Film Festival (GIBFF) is a year-round series of cultural events that bring independent Black film to Gary audiences providing rich, authentic opportunities to celebrate African American heritage and culture.

Beverly J. Mack has 33 years of experience concentrating her practice in insurance defense and complex litigation. She is licensed to practice law in both Indiana and Illinois. Ms. Mack was born in Olney, Illinois, on July 25, 1961. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1983 and obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1989. Read more

Dita Guha is the first-born daughter of Bengali Indian immigrants. She grew up witnessing her parents’ tenacious work ethic, courage, and perseverance. At just eight years old, Dita got her first job answering phones at her father’s business. Dita’s strong work ethic has helped her build a successful career and law practice. In 2008, after completing her master’s degree, Dita worked as a paralegal at one of the largest Injury law firms in Chicago. Read more

A recent American Bar Association study shows there are about 1.3 million lawyers in the United States. Many do not offer services in underserved areas. In Northwest Indiana, just about 1% of registered law firms call Gary, Indiana home leaving a significant population without access to quality legal services.
