Time is running out to reunite Korean Americans with their war-torn loved ones in North Korea. I am excited to share that this week, the House passed H.R. 826, the Divided Families Reunification Act, which I introduced with Reps. Grace Meng and Van Taylor and passed H.Res. 294, which I introduced with Rep. Karen Bass.
This issue is personal to me, and I have deep empathy for those longing to reunite with their relatives. I thank my House colleagues for showing bipartisan commitment to divided family reunifications, and I urge the Senate to follow suit and take action immediately.

I’m honored to support the Congressional App Challenge and serve as a co-chair of this year’s competition. The Congressional App Challenge is a fun and innovative way for students to be exposed to computer science and coding concepts, which in turn helps create opportunities, grow our workforce, strengthen our future economy and boost U.S. competitiveness abroad. This is more important than ever as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. No previous coding experience is necessary, so I encourage all middle and high school students to take on the challenge!
I am proud to have led and supported several initiatives in Congress to promote STEM education opportunities for students, such as:
- The Innovations in Informal STEM Learning Act (H.R. 3859);
- The Research Excellence through STEM Inclusion Act (H.R. 3809);
- The Supporting Early-Career Researchers Act (H.R.144);
- The MSI STEM Achievement Act (H.R.210); and,
- The Rural STEM Education Act (H.R.2027).

Following the 2002 Invasion of Afghanistan and subsequent overthrow of the Taliban, opportunities for Afghan women have dramatically improved, in large part due to U.S. support. However, despite these steps forward, Afghan women and girls tragically remain targets of violence.
We must ensure that the planned U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in September does not adversely impact opportunities for women and girls to learn and succeed, especially as the Taliban consolidates power. I’m proud to work with Rep. Kathy Manning (NC-06) on a resolution to show bipartisan support for Afghan women and girls.

I am very troubled by the increase of cyber-attacks, which seem to be designed not only for monetary purposes, but also to instill distrust in our economic system and our institutions. Just between 2019-2020, our country saw a 400 percent increase in cyber intrusions. Successful cyberattacks also discourage future entrepreneurs from establishing a small business and creating jobs.
We had a productive Small Business Committee hearing this week on how we can protect small businesses from cyberattacks. I introduced the SBA Cyber Awareness Act with Rep. Jason Crow to boost cybersecurity at the Small Business Administration and am committed to expanding access to cybersecurity resources for entrepreneurs.

The pro-democracy protests in Cuba demonstrate once again that socialism always fails. In 1959, Cuba was the 3rd richest country in the Western Hemisphere. Today, it is one of the poorest countries on earth.
America must send a clear message to the people of Cuba that we stand firm with them in their struggle for freedom. This week, I signed onto a resolution led by Rep. Maria Salazar (FL-27) and more than 190 of my colleagues to denounce socialism.

It is clear that rushing more federal spending on partisan priorities will cause increased federal debt, even higher costs of living and more money out of the pockets of hardworking taxpayers. I'm committed to making life more affordable and lowering taxes by repealing the cap on state and local tax deductions.
