At the January meeting, we announced our two honorary members for 2017, Williamson County Sr. Director of Infrastructure Bob Daigh, P.E. and TxDOT Austin District Engineer Terry McCoy, P.E., who have both given their support to our chapter over the years and have advocated for the advancement of many women in our industry.
On February 10th, eight hunters arrived early in the morning and enjoyed one half-day of upland bird hunting, skeet shooting, and pistol shooting at the beautiful Pit Creek Ranch in Lampasas, TX! Following the morning guided bird hunt, a magnificent BBQ feast was served for lunch. Birds, game processing, clays for the clay range, and guide services (with dogs) were included in the live auction package that raised $12,500 for scholarships and Transportation YOU activities at last year's gala.

The hunt was organized and donated by Mike Weaver of Prime Strategies, Mike Robinson of Halff & Associates and Richard Ridings of HNTB. Firms participating in the hunt included HNTB, HDR, Halff & Associates, Klotz, CP&Y, SAM, Terracon, and Rogers Design Services.

In February, we hosted a luncheon program on Women in Leadership featuring panelists:
  • Cinde Weatherby, Principal and Chief Happiness Officer at Weatherby Consulting
  • Gayle Heath, Chief Executive Officer at Alliance Transportation Group
  • Williamson County Commissioner Valerie Covey

Ashby Johnson, Executive Director of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, moderated. The panel provided our guests with multiple perspectives on leadership and lessons learned from women that have achieved successful careers in our transportation industry.

Transportation YOU-WTS Heart of Texas Chapter participated in Girl Day at the University of Texas at Austin hosted by the Women in Engineering Program (WEP) on February 25, 2017. The event attracted more than 7,000 girls ranging from kindergarten through eighth grades. Transportation YOU committee members, WTS board members, a UT engineering student, and our allies volunteered to help about 500 eager participants design, create, and build bridges using only marshmallows and toothpicks.
In March, our luncheon program featured Meredith Greene as the Executive Director of the Texas Transit Association to discuss legislative updates and programs relating to transit agencies across the state.
